The Muted Luna’s Revenge Chapter 02

The Muted Luna’s Revenge Chapter 02

Click.

That familiar camera shutter sounded behind me.

I turned and found Selene lowering her camera, her face bright with excitement.

“Those rogues you hired were amateurs. My shot is way funnier!”

“Please. You hired someone to dump water on her. That doesn’t make your picture any better than mine. Let’s send both to Lyra and let her judge.”

They whispered back and forth, completely absorbed in their debate.

They didn’t know that after losing my voice, my hearing had grown sharper by the day.

Every whisper I’d once missed now reached me perfectly clearly.

A tear hit the ground. My knees finally gave out.

It took a long moment before I could pull out my phone with trembling hands and send two messages.

[I’m not coming home.]

[Kael, we’re over.]

Not far away, Kael looked up in alarm and hurried toward me.

Selene grabbed his arm.

“Ignore her. I know Maeve. It’s just another dramatic threat to get attention. We’ve been messing with her for months. Has she ever figured out anything was wrong?”

Kael stopped and seemed to relax.

“True. She can be painfully slow. No wonder her mother gets her to swallow that muting drug every time.”

My stomach dropped.

When I was younger and practiced until my voice turned hoarse, Mom would always pull me into her arms.

“Our Maeve will get into the best conservatory and grow up to be an incredible singer.”

But now, to make Lyra happy, she’d destroyed my voice and my dreams with her own hands.

I didn’t remember how I left.

By the time I got into a cab, I felt numb and frozen through.

My phone suddenly vibrated.

A new photo appeared in the family group chat, instantly burying my message about not coming home.

[@everyone: Mom made a huge seafood dinner. We’re only waiting on you!]

Beautifully plated dishes covered the entire table.

Every single one could trigger my allergy.

For once, I was grateful I hadn’t gone home to be humiliated again.

Kael and Selene replied within seconds.

Party emojis flooded the chat, as if everyone were celebrating my departure.

My mouth twisted into a bitter smile.

I switched screens and opened my acceptance email from Royal Crescent Conservatory.

The school had offered me a full scholarship and specialist treatment to help restore my voice.

But it was far from Silverveil Pack and everyone I knew and loved, so I’d never accepted.

Only now did I see how foolish I’d been.

I clicked Accept.

In ten days, I would leave Silverveil.

This time, no one would know where my flight was headed.
