The Mate He Didn’t Deserve Chapter 08

The Mate He Didn’t Deserve Chapter 08

I nodded again. Thank you.”

Finn scratched the back of his neck, awkwardly unsure of what else to say.

I saw the guilt in his eyes, but I also knew he was a victim too.

I tried to comfort him. “I’m fine.”

“But I’ll never forgive your mother.”

“If you feel Blackthorn Pack owes me, then do your best to support our family’s business deals.”

My mother had died young, and my father had remarried and had other children.

I’d been raised by my grandparents, and my relationship with my father had never been close.

On my grandfather’s deathbed, he’d told me to do everything I could to save the Lewis family’s empire.

He’d raised me, and when he’d been gravely ill, I couldn’t even get him a single dose of the medicine he needed.

Now, trading some favors with Finn for the Lewis family seemed like a fair exchange.

A way to fulfill my grandfather’s last wish.

Finn sat beside me in silence for a long time.

Finally, he spoke again. “I have an apartment in Scandinavia, with a big garden front and back. You’d like it.”

“I remember you used to go there to study painting.”

I have a friend there who could help you get away from it all, if you’d like. I’ll make all the arrangements,”

I’ll have the apartment transferred to your name.”

“Don’t worry about the mate bond dissolution. I’ll handle it for you.”

He said this, watching me carefully, waiting for my answer.

I smiled and agreed without hesitation.

“Sure. And make sure your mother comes to apologize to me before I go.”

Finn smiled back.

“Of course

On the day I left, Finn brought Mrs. Cater to the airport

Her face was still rather sour

But she walked over to me bowed deeply

I’m sorry I’ve been in the wrong all these years.”

I took the black card Finn had given me and replied, without a moment’s hesitation.

“It’s okay.”

I didn’t care how Finn had made his mother apologize.

I just wanted to leave this city as quickly as possible.

Mrs. Carter froze, surprised at how easily I’d forgiven her.

I could guess what she was thinking, and said softly. “I’m not forgiving you.”

“But I need an apology to close this chapter.”

“When I said ‘it’s okay.’ I wasn’t saying it to you. I was saying it to myself.”

Mrs. Carter was still stunned.

I waved to Finn.

“I’m leaving.”

“Don’t tell him where I am.”

Finn nodded. I turned and boarded the plane bound for Scandinavia.

Three years later, I owned a flower shop in a small European town.

The town was sparsely populated.

Business was neither good nor bad.

So most days, I’d lie on a lounge chair in the sun.

I’d cut all ties to my home country.

Finn’s friend became a regular customer at the shop.

Perhaps he was taking care of me on Finn’s behalf, or perhaps he just loved flowers too

I didn’t worry about it

He’d come and sit in the shop for hours, and we’d talk, off and on, whenever the mood struck

I never expected the first person to find me to be Nadia.

She’d lost a lot of weight, her hair dry and brittle, like she hadn’t taken care of herself in ages

She’d always been someone who cared deeply about her appearance

Even when news of Finn’s death had spread, she’d still made sure to look her best.

But now, standing in front of me, I barely recognized her.

Nadia called my name timidly, and I finally snapped out of it.

“Aurora.”

Her voice was filled with grievance.

The next words out of her mouth hit me like a blow.

“Can you lend me five million?”

“I know Alpha Finn gave you a black card.”

I was still reeling when she suddenly burst into tears.

“Alpha Finn and I have ended our mate bond.”

“Caleb doesn’t want me either. I only have you now.”

“I got trapped in a gambling debt, and no one will help me.”

“You’re my best friend. Please, help me.”

She reached out to grab my hand.
