The Mate He Didn’t Deserve Chapter 07

The Mate He Didn’t Deserve Chapter 07

Nadia stood alone at the door, breaking down completely.

Meanwhile, Caleb had tracked me down to the hospital-another one under Blackthorn Pack’s name.

When I woke up, he was right there by my bedside.

His face was covered in stubble.

For a dizzying moment, I was transported back to that morning when I’d first fallen for him.

Sunlight streaming through the window, gilding his handsome features.

He’d smiled and asked if I was still dizzy.

I couldn’t tell how much of that moment had been real. how much feigned.

In all our lives, we spend so much time searching for a pair of loving eyes.

So I’d let myself fall, let myself sink into him… and paid the price for that single, reckless moment.

Now, the scene was eerily familiar, yet my heart felt worlds apart.

The pain was so intense I couldn’t distinguish between the physical wounds and the heartache.

I had no strength left to hate, no strength to resent.

No strength to keep asking, why had my husband cheated with my best friend?

I was tired.

When Caleb saw I was awake, he grabbed my hand frantically.

“You’re awake!”

“Does it still hurt? I’m so sorry, I had no idea Mom would hit you so hard.

“If I’d only known-

I cut him off.

“Alpha Finn should have given you the dissolution papers.”

“Sign them”

“From now on, I won’t stand in your way of Nadia and you

Pain twisted across Caleb’s face.

Once he would have found my willingness to end the mate bond a relief, even a sign of how sensible I was

Now, only a sour bitterness welled up in his chest. turning his eyes red

This wasn’t what he wanted. Caleb was sure of that

It was the first time he’d ever spoken to me on his knees

“Aurora, I was wrong.

“I really do love you. I just woke up too late.”

“I don’t want to end our mate bond. Please give me another chance, okay?”

He squeezed my hand so tight I thought he might never let go.

I just looked at him, calm and unruffled

I didn’t know what to feel for the man I’d loved for so many years.

For the man who’d killed our unborn child.

I closed my eyes, unwilling to prolong the pain. unwilling to waste another word on him.

“I’m tired.”

Caleb hurried to respond.

“Rest a little longer. I’ll stay here with you. I promise

But he’d barely finished speaking when that jarring phone ringtone blared out again.

I didn’t even bother to care who it was, or where he’d be dragged off to this time.

He hung up without hesitation.

The phone rang again the next second.

Caleb hesitated, then stood up.

He answered the call.

Nadia’s desperate sobs came through the line.

“Alpha, where are you?”

“Your brother’s ignoring me too! If you leave me too. I’ll just die with this baby!”

Caleb cut her off sharply.

‘Don’t do anything stupid”

Where are you?”

I’m coming right now”

After he hung up. he looked at me again, filled with guilt.

“Aurora. Nadia’s not thinking straight.”

“I have to go check on her.”

“I’ll be right back. I promise.”

I didn’t respond.

An awkward silence hung in the hospital room.

Eventually, footsteps echoed.

I opened my eyes, staring numbly at the trees outside the window.

I was lost in thought.

I didn’t even notice when Finn walked in.

A shadow fell over me.

Finn held a bouquet of flowers, and without a word. placed them in a vase.

“How are you feeling?”

I nodded. “I’m okay.”

“I’m sorry about my mom. I’ll make her apologize to you.”

I’ll also give you proper compensation.”

“And I’ll keep my word-help you finalize the dissolution with Caleb as soon as possible.”
