“Aurora, please.”

I took a step back, looking at her calmly.

No longer angry at their double betrayal.

“I’m sorry, I can’t help you.”

I’d donated all of Finn’s money to charity years ago.

I didn’t have five million, not like she’d said.

Nadia suddenly snapped.

Her face twisted with rage, she looked at me like I was her worst enemy.

“I knew you still hated me!”

“But Caleb loved me-what was I supposed to do!”

“If it wasn’t for me. Caleb never would have married you! You should be grateful!”

“We were best friends! My husband died, and you hooked up with someone who looked just like him! How was I supposed

to react!”

“Aurora Lewis! Why does it always end with me getting nothing, while Caleb falls in love with you!”

“If it wasn’t for me, Caleb wouldn’t have even looked at you back then!”

My fingers curled into fists without my realizing it.

So Nadia had known the truth all along.

I turned and walked back into the shop, repeating the same words over and over.

“I can’t help you. Just leave!”

Nadia shouted and cursed outside the shop for half an hour, then cried and begged for another half hour.

I finally told the clerk to hand her a cloth bag through the window.

By then, it was finally quiet outside.

I had no idea when she’d left.

Inside the bag was half of all the savings I’d accumulated over the years

It was a thank-you for the one piece of candy she’d given me when we were kids

Caleb arrived three days later.

When he saw me, his voice was so quiet I could barely hear it.

“Aurora, how have you been all these years?”

I nodded calmly.

“Very well.”

When I started to walk away, his voice rose in panic.

“Aurora, I’ve cut all ties with Nadia for good.”

The baby is officially registered under my brother’s name.”

“Aurora, please give me another chance?”

He looked at me, filled with hope.

But my heart felt nothing.

I was about to refuse when Soren Hale walked in.

I stepped forward and linked arms with him.

Soren’s eyes widened instantly.

When he saw Caleb, he understood my intention at once.

He squeezed my hand and smiled.

“Come on, let’s go home for dinner.”

Caleb stood frozen on the spot.

“Aurora, who is he?”

Soren played along, smiling broadly.

I’m her husband.”

“Excuse us, we’re closing up. Could you please leave?”

As we left. Caleb was still standing there.

It started to rain, but he didn’t move an inch.

I glanced back at him.

Then opened my umbrella and walked in the opposite direction.

Soren understood, laughing.

“Still not over him”

I shook my head.

I kept walking.

Near our home, the man beside me suddenly said. “What if we pair up instead?”

I raised an eyebrow.

I didn’t answer, walking straight into the house.

The man called from the door.

“If you don’t answer, I’ll just ask you again tomorrow.”

I turned on the light and walked to the window.

Soren waved at me, blew me a kiss, then kicked a stone as he walked away.

I thought to myself.

It was time to start a new chapter.
