The Marriage License Was A Lie Chapter 04

The Marriage License Was A Lie Chapter 04

“Whether I belong in the light is not for a bunch of useless men like you to decide.”

“I’m warning you. Get out of this bathroom right now, or I’ll press charges for voyeurism and sexual harassment.”

“Hahahaha, press charges?”

“Evelyn, this is Adrian Whitmore’s territory. Everything here happens because he allows it.”

“Even the police know better than to cross him. You were with him, weren’t you?”

I turned and glared at Adrian. He exhaled smoke, his eyes filled with open mockery.

Chloe clapped her hands and laughed.

“Just as expected. A country bumpkin like you really doesn’t understand how old-money circles work.”

I curled my lips into a cold smile.

“So you so-called wealthy families think you can control other people’s lives and deaths, and trample on their dignity whenever you want?”

“Of course. What else would we want power and status for?”

Her words reminded me of my stepmother’s family.

They had thought that because they had won, they could casually decide everyone else’s fate in the family.

But I had told them back then that nothing was over until the end, and everyone still had a chance to turn the tables.

They had not believed me.

Not until I closed in on them step by step with a bloodstained knife in my hand. Only then did they understand that even someone they considered low and worthless could fight her way back.

I had chosen Adrian not for the Whitmore family’s petty influence, but for Adrian himself.

Because he had once been sincere with me, and people who stayed too long at the top craved sincerity the most.

Now I finally understood one truth.

People who sat too high above everyone else were doomed to be alone.

When I stayed silent and met their ridicule with cold pride, Chloe lost patience.

She found another jar and brought it over.

“Looks like these bugs aren’t exciting enough for you.”

“Why don’t I add something stronger?”

Someone’s eyes lit up, and he immediately stepped forward.

“Yeah, do it. Pour them in.”

“Once that pile goes in, she’ll definitely be scared enough to jump up.”

“I’ll open my arms and catch her when she throws herself at me.”

The moment he said it, his face flushed, his body clearly reacting.

The other men licked their lips, just as thirsty and disgusting, staring at me without blinking.

“She’s a stunner. Only Adrian would be willing to hand her over for us to enjoy. Damn it, I’ve wanted her for a long time.”

“Evelyn, listen up. Adrian doesn’t want you anymore, but I do. Come with me.”

The moment he said that, he rushed toward me, his eyes obscene and his grin filthy as he reached out to put his hands on me.

I raised my fist and slammed it into his face.

“Get lost. If you don’t, I’ll kill you.”

I ruled both the legitimate world and the underworld, yet now every stray dog thought it could climb over me and humiliate me.

Burning with rage, I met Adrian’s eyes.

“So you’re determined to let your buddies use me just to please her?”

“Yes. They’re my brothers. What’s mine is theirs.”

I laughed.

“Well said.”

“Then I won’t be showing you any mercy either.”

“Evelyn, stop pretending. What are you going to rely on to show me no mercy?”

“Her body, of course. Maybe she really did sleep her way into some powerful man’s bed.”

The other men looked even more disdainful.

“What powerful man? Aren’t we powerful enough?”

“Hahaha. Before she crawls to that so-called powerful man, let me have some fun first.”

After saying that, he reached over and snatched the jar from Chloe’s hand.

He put on gloves and opened the lid. The cockroaches inside crawled out as if they had been drugged into a frenzy.

My face turned pale, and I nearly threw up from disgust.

“How about it, Evelyn? Say you’ll be my plaything, and I’ll save you. Don’t bother looking at Adrian. He already said he doesn’t want you.”

“You don’t have a chance to turn this around.”

At that exact moment, the foam in the bathtub disappeared completely.

All the men shoved forward, fighting for the best angle, their eyes wide as they tried to stare at me.

Chloe lifted her phone and aimed it at me.

“The real show is about to begin.”

I curled my lips into a cold smile.

“I told you. No matter how low someone starts, there is always a way to fight out.”

The moment I finished speaking, I closed my eyes, grabbed the towel, and sent a sheet of water splashing toward them.

Then I sprang up, kicked one man down as fast as I could, ripped his jacket off him, and draped it over myself.

The move was smooth and ruthless, so fast that even Adrian failed to react.

By the time my feet hit the floor again, a group of men in black broke through the door.

Like reapers, they stood behind me, waiting for my command.

I let out a cold laugh.

“I’ve already fought my way out. Now let’s see whether any of you can do the same.”
