The Mafia Real Daughter’s Revenge Chapter 05

The Mafia Real Daughter’s Revenge Chapter 05

[Nathan’s POV]

At Sicilian Academy’s admissions office, Lucius and Maria stood beside Rachel, both visibly

emotional as they prepared to see her off.

The admissions director glanced at Rachel’s file photo.

Then his expression changed.

“The recommended student from New York arrived weeks ago.”

The room fell silent.

He looked directly at Rachel.

“So why are you impersonating her?”

The question hit like a bomb.

Everyone froze.

Rachel went pale instantly, biting her lip so hard it lost all color.

Years in the mafia world had taught me how to react under pressure. I recovered first.

“Sir, haven’t you spoken with the dean’s office?”

The director shot me a dismissive look.

“Why would I know what your dean is doing?”

He let out a cold laugh.

“Though I did hear he’s under federal investigation. Apparently he accepted a payment worth hundreds of millions from New York and failed to report it.”

He paused.

“The money supposedly came from the Vito family.”

My blood ran cold.

“The IRS will probably be paying them a visit very soon.”

For a moment, it felt like a lightning strike had gone straight through my skull.

I immediately pulled out my phone and messaged my assistant.

The reply arrived almost instantly.

[Underboss, there’s a problem.]

[While you were away this morning, federal investigators uncovered irregularities in the Vito family’s accounts. They’re also looking into unauthorized use of family funds under your name. They’re waiting at headquarters and requesting your cooperation immediately.]

Unauthorized use of family funds?

I stared at the screen.

[Are you out of your damn mind?]

[I’ve been running family operations for years. Do you really think I’d make a mistake that stupid?]

A few seconds later, another message appeared.

[It wasn’t you, Underboss.]

[But didn’t you recently authorize a custom couture collection for Miss Rachel and hire

internationally renowned design mentors for her?]

[The total expenditure exceeded three hundred million dollars.]

Three hundred million?

I never approved three hundred million dollars.

Beside me, Lucius frowned.

“Nathan, what’s going on?”

His voice carried a hint of panic.

“What investigation? What does the dean have to do with this? Didn’t you say everything was already arranged?”

I barely heard him. My mind was racing.

If I hadn’t spent the money…

Then who had?

“No.”

I shook my head.

“No, that’s impossible. I never bought Rachel anything.”

Before I could finish the thought, Rachel suddenly smiled.

Realization lit up her face.

“Oh, that.”

She looked at me cheerfully.

“Nathan, you mean those gifts?”

“I asked your assistant to handle them for you. The custom collection, the design instructors… all

the things you promised me.”

Then she tilted her head.

“Were you planning to buy me something else too?”

I stared at her for a moment before rage took over, and I grabbed her by the collar.

“Rachel!”

Every word came out as a roar.

“Do you have any idea what unauthorized use of family funds means?”

“That’s a serious crime. Even an idiot wouldn’t do something this stupid.”

“You’ve completely screwed me over!”

Rachel’s face drained of color.

“Nathan, I…

Her voice shook.

“I was only trying to help because you were busy.”

She immediately turned toward her parents.

“Dad! Mom!”

“You have to explain this.”

Tears filled her eyes.

“I never meant for this to happen.”

Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she pointed elsewhere.

“Nora told me it would be fine!”

For the first time in a very long while, Lucius and Maria didn’t rush to defend her.

They stood frozen.

Lucius looked genuinely bewildered.

“That’s impossible.”

Maria slowly shook her head.

“Rachel, we’ve known Nora her entire life. She may dislike you, but she’d never make a mistake

this basic.”

They exchanged a look.

“Did you misunderstand something?”

Rachel’s eyes reddened with anger.

As more and more people gathered around them, she could only squeeze out a few tears.

“How can you think that?”

Her voice rose.

“Aren’t I your daughter?”

She pointed accusingly at them.

“I knew it. You’ll always care more about that fake heiress.”

The admissions director rolled his eyes so hard it was almost comical.

“Enough.”

He stood.

“I’m going to find the vice president. If anyone can clear this up, it’s him.”

The moment he left, the surrounding students fluuled forward. They came from mafia families all

over the world, each one an heir in their own right.

And like heirs everywhere, they loved a scandal.

“Look.”

Someone pointed.

“That’s the Moretti family from New York.”

“The girl beside them is supposed to be the real heiress.”

Another person laughed.

“Wasn’t she all over the media a few weeks ago?”

“I heard she couldn’t even solve a basic investment problem.”

The crowd immediately became more interested.

One of the heirs crossed his arms.

“Then why don’t we settle it right now?”

Several heads turned.

He continued.

“Give her another test.”

“If she passes, she proves she belongs here. And if she does well, she’ll restore her reputation.”

The suggestion was met with immediate approval.

“Exactly.”

“Let’s make it Finance and International Trade.”

Someone else grinned.

“And law.”

“I heard Rachel scored perfectly in finance. She’s supposed to be a genius, right?”

A wave of laughter swept through the crowd.

“Academic scores are one thing.”

“Real-world application is another.”

“Let’s see what she’s actually capable of.”
