The Mafia Real Daughter’s Revenge Chapter 02

The Mafia Real Daughter’s Revenge Chapter 02

[Nora’s POV]

I watched them disappear through the front doors.

A bitter laugh escaped me, and before I knew it, tears were already running down my face.

After Rachel’s true identity had been revealed in my previous life, my parents had been so consumed with guilt they would’ve handed her the world if they could.

When I was burning with a fever so high I nearly died, they still chose to fly Rachel to Europe for a private luxury getaway.

Nathan, meanwhile, flew back overnight on a private jet and took me straight to the hospital.

Even after I was thrown out of the family and struggled through community college, he never left my side.

He made time every week to help me work part-time jobs and pay my tuition.

When I turned twenty, he lit up the entire Manhattan skyline with fireworks and proposed to me beneath them.

“Nora,” he’d said, holding my hands. “You’ll be the future Donna of the Vito family.”

I had barely recovered from the shock of his proposal when everything fell apart.

One night, a stranger followed me into my apartment. Afterward, I discovered I was pregnant.

The news shattered me.

My shame and self-loathing eventually drove me to break up with Nathan.

He spent an entire year trying to win me back.

Then he began to hate me.

Those ten months of pregnancy were pure torture.

Sometimes I would secretly go to the Vito estate just to catch a glimpse of him from afar.

Then I learned the truth.

Everything he’d done for me…

Had only been guilt.

—

I wrapped my injured hand in fresh bandages and took a cab to a nearby café.

After I sat down, the Director of Admissions at Sicilian Academy took the seat across from me.

“Miss Moretti, we’re honored to welcome a talent like you to Sicilian Academy.”

I smiled politely.

“Mr. Smith, before I accept your offer, I’d like one thing.”

“Of course.”

“Keep my admission confidential.”

He agreed immediately.

Afterward, I stopped by a DNA testing center.

The technician checked the paperwork. “The results will be available in three days. We’ll notify you as soon as they’re ready.”

Rachel.

Whether you’re the real heiress…

Or the fake one…

We’ll find out soon enough.

When I returned to the Moretti estate, Rachel tossed a folder onto the table with a smug smile.

“Grandpa’s inheritance transfer agreement.”

She crossed her arms.

“Sign it, Nora.”

“Oh, and Mom wants you to give me Grandpa’s sapphire necklace too.”

I stared at her arrogant face.

For a moment, I felt sorry for the version of myself from my previous life.

Back then, after Rachel returned to the family, I felt guilty for occupying her place all those years.

I gave her everything.

To everyone else, she looked sweet, innocent, and harmless.

Only I knew the truth.

Around her, I’d reduced myself to nothing.

When she asked for Grandpa’s inheritance and family heirlooms, I’d struggled with the decision before finally giving them to her.

Less than a month later, she’d blown through every dollar on designer bags, jewelry, and luxury shopping sprees.

I looked her straight in the eye.

“No.”

Her smile vanished.

“What did you say?”

“I said no.”

Rachel shot to her feet.

“How dare you refuse me? Nora, don’t get carried away.”

Just then, Nathan walked in.

Rachel’s expression changed instantly.

“Nathan…” Her voice softened. “Mom asked Nora to sign Grandpa’s inheritance transfer papers, but she doesn’t seem willing.”

Nathan frowned.

“What are you causing trouble for now? The inheritance was always meant for the old Don’s biological granddaughter.”

“Nora, have you forgotten who you are?”

I couldn’t be bothered arguing. Instead, I went into the kitchen and made myself a sandwich.

Nathan looked at me strangely.

“Since when do you cook?”

A mocking smile tugged at his lips.

“Trying to imitate Rachel?”

He shook his head.

“Have some self-awareness. She grew up in Brooklyn. You didn’t.”

I didn’t answer.

In my previous life, after I’d been cast out, I washed dishes and waited tables just to survive.

Every time Nathan saw my cracked hands, he’d look heartbroken and insist on putting hand cream on them himself.

Back then, I thought it was love. Now I knew better—it had only ever been guilt.

The thought made my stomach churn.

After dinner, I washed my plate and headed upstairs to put Grandpa’s sapphire necklace somewhere safe.

Before I reached my room, Rachel’s shrill scream tore through the house.

A moment later, Nathan came striding toward me and threw a velvet jewelry box at my feet. Inside was Grandpa’s sapphire necklace, broken into several pieces.

“Nora! You’d rather destroy the necklace than give it to Rachel?”

“So now you’re framing her too?”

I slapped Rachel across the face. The sharp crack echoed through the room.

“Rachel.”

My voice shook with rage.

“I told you before.”

“Grandpa is my bottom line.”

Her eyes instantly reddened. To my disbelief, she dropped to her knees.

“Please, Nora… I’m sorry. Don’t hit me anymore.”

Disgust churned in my stomach.

I was about to expose her lies when Maria grabbed my arm and slapped me across the face.

“Nora!”

She was trembling with anger.

“That was your grandfather’s heirloom! He doted on you, and this is what you do to something he treasured?”

Lucius’s face was equally dark.

“You broke it, and now you’re trying to blame your sister?”

His voice thundered through the room.

“Does the Moretti family teach you to lie?”

My chest tightened. I hadn’t even spoken, yet they’d already chosen to believe the worst of me.

Nathan looked down at me from above.

“Lucius. People who make mistakes should face the family’s discipline, shouldn’t they?”

Lucius closed his eyes for a moment, then he let out a disappointed sigh.

“Mark.”

He turned toward the butler.

“Bring me the whip.”
