The Luna Beyond His Reach Chapter 03

The Luna Beyond His Reach Chapter 03

“Cough!”

I heaved, blood spattering across the white sheets.

The wrong potion, combined with the damage from the allergic reaction—my body was failing fast. I might not even make it seven days.

When I woke, it was dark outside. The hospital lights glowed warm.

Theron sat by my bedside, his face etched with worry. His white coat was dusty, like he’d come straight from somewhere.

He reached out to check the crystal conduit connected to my wrist, the one that delivered the healing potion.

But he stopped short when he saw my eyes open.

He pulled his hand back, his expression sour. “Rhea, are you playing games now?”

“I knew my treatment plan couldn’t fail. If you wanted me to come back, just say so. No need to fake a coma for sympathy.”

I turned away from him, my tone flat. “If you don’t want to be here, don’t come. No one’s begging you.”

Inside, I let out a breath of relief. That was close. He almost noticed the potion had been switched.

He went quiet, his face softening after a few seconds. He put a hand on my shoulder, his voice gentler.

“Still mad? It’s nothing. I know you hate Sienna. I won’t let her near you again.”

“You’ve been wanting to visit your friends in Silvermoon City, haven’t you? I’ll take you there tomorrow. How about that?”

My heart stirred. I nodded.

Those friends were in the neighboring city. Before I left for good, I wanted to see them one last time.

Having him along would make things easier.

But he never made it.

The day we were supposed to leave, we’d barely reached the hospital entrance when his phone rang.

He answered, his face changing. When he hung up, he looked at me, full of regret.

“Rhea…”

I gave a knowing smile. “It’s okay. Go handle it.”

The nurse beside me jumped in. “Rhea, there’s an emergency in the ER. Theron’s needed as the lead.”

I said nothing, just got in the car alone.

A few passing staffers shot me approving looks.

“Theron’s mate is so understanding.”

As the Chief Healer, Theron getting called away for emergencies was nothing new. Lives were at stake. I never held it against him.

I always thought saving lives came before me. It only made sense.

What I never imagined was that everything came before me.

And Sienna came before everything else.

When I tracked him down in Silvermoon City, he was in a lab, frantically mixing potions.

He looked up, startled. “Rhea? What are you doing here?”

“Sienna tampered with a patient’s medication. They’re having adverse reactions. I need to make a neutralizing agent.”

“I thought… there was an emergency in the capital?” I locked eyes with him.

He hesitated, then mumbled vaguely. “Other colleagues handled it.”

I understood immediately.

He’d never planned to go to the capital. It had always been about Sienna.
