The Luna Beyond His Reach Chapter 02

The Luna Beyond His Reach Chapter 02

A familiar voice echoed in the depths of my mind. My wolf.

[Rhea, actually… Theron does care about you.]

[If you changed your mind, and let him find out you received the wrong healing potion, he’d be consumed with guilt. He’d spend the rest of his life trying to make it up to you.]

I shook my head gently.

Guilt? That wouldn’t bring back everything I’d lost.

[But Rhea, didn’t you already decide to stay in this world?]

I closed my eyes.

Yes. Years ago, I’d given up on returning to where I came from.

I’d stumbled into this land by accident, only thinking about survival.

Then I met Kael.

Back then, he was good to me. So good I thought staying with the wolves wasn’t such a bad trade.

Besides, I had no family left back home.

But eventually, I learned—no matter how deep the love, it can’t outlast time.

People change.

I spoke softly. “No. I’m going home.”

Only seven days left. I could wait.

After Theron left, I was alone in the room.

Then the door burst open. Sienna strode in, wearing a white dress.

I tensed. “What are you doing here?”

Her smile was venomous. “Here to see you off. That allergy didn’t finish you, so I figured I’d do it myself.”

I reached for the call button.

But she was already at my bedside, her hands locked around my throat, squeezing harder and harder.

I fought back, but my body was too weak from the anaphylactic shock. I was no match for her.

My vision went dark. Right as I was about to pass out, a nurse on her rounds rushed in, screaming. “What are you doing?! Someone! Help!”

In the chaos, I used my last ounce of strength to grab the nurse’s hand.

“Call… the Enforcers…”

When I woke again, Theron’s cold face was the first thing I saw.

“Rhea. Why did you involve the Enforcers?”

I blinked, then rasped out, “Sienna came in and tried to choke me to death. Of course I’m pressing charges.”

His brow furrowed. “Rhea, Sienna told me she was coming to apologize. There’s no way she’d try to hurt you.”

I stared at him, my voice calm. “How many times has she hurt me, Theron? You know the answer.”

He faltered.

Of course he knew. But even if he believed me, he’d never let Sienna face pack law.

He motioned for the beta behind him to hand me a letter of forgiveness.

“Rhea, Sienna’s fragile. This would destroy her.”

“I’ve already confined her. She knows she was wrong. Just sign this, and we’ll put it behind us. Please?”

I turned my face away.

“Rhea.” His tone hardened, carrying an edge of force. “Sign it. I promise Sienna will never come near you again. Be reasonable.”

He reached for my hand, trying to press the pen into it.

But before he could touch me, I slapped him. Hard.

The crack echoed through the room.

Silence.

Theron’s hand went to his cheek. His usually composed face was a mask of shock.

Maybe it was because I was leaving. Maybe I was done swallowing my pride.

I looked him in the eye, each word deliberate.

“Theron, believe me or don’t. But I’m not signing that.”

He didn’t say another word. He took the letter and left with the beta, slamming the door.

He was furious. He didn’t come back for days.

One evening, the nurse came to change my medication. She hesitated before speaking.

“Rhea, Theron hasn’t visited, but he calls every day to check on you. He says your allergy is serious, and he wants to make sure your healing potions are administered correctly.”

When I didn’t respond, she added softly, “Rhea, he does care about you.”

A bitter smile tugged at my lips.

So he was that afraid of me dying.

I wondered what his face would look like when he found out that he—with his own signature—had approved the wrong medication.
