The Luna Beyond His Reach Chapter 01

The Luna Beyond His Reach Chapter 01

On the five-year anniversary of my mating bond with my mate Theron, he secretly livestreamed our intimate moment.

The entire Blackwood Pack was laughing.

Except for me, who was suffering a severe allergic reaction to the mango-flavored condom he’d used.

I could barely breathe through the agony.

Theron pulled out his phone and filmed the red welts spreading from my lower belly all the way up to my face across my body. He sent the video to Sienna.

“Sienna, looks like she’s allergic to that too. You called it again.”

Her smug laugh came through the speaker, “You lose again! Dinner’s on you!”

Theron chuckled in agreement, then turned to me. “Come on, I’ll drop you off at the hospital first, then I’m meeting Sienna for dinner.”

“Don’t blame her. She knew I could fix you up. It was just for fun.”

I stared at him, unblinking.

He was the youngest healer in the entire Northern Territory, the only one with top-tier healing abilities.

And this was how he indulged Sienna’s games.

She hurt me.

He healed me.

They’d turned this into a five-year running joke.

But this time, he was in such a rush to see Sienna that he miswrote the prescription for my treatment.

The nurses had already prepared the wrong medication based on his order. It was just waiting to be swapped.

I glanced at the nurse beside me and gave a small smile. “Go ahead. Make the switch.”

By the time Theron came back, the healing crystal on my wrist was already half-illuminated.

The warm amber glow from the moonstone lamp softened his chiseled features and made his silver-gray wolf eyes look almost tender.

Draped in the white robe that marked him as the Chief Healer, he walked slowly to my bedside.

“Just finished up. You’re almost through this bag already?”

“Let me see how my wife’s doing.”

He reached out to feel my forehead, then gently lifted my eyelids to check—every motion meticulous and kind.

I looked at him, my thoughts a tangled mess.

After all these years, I could finally go home.

Maybe my gaze was too obvious, because his brow lifted slightly and his voice grew even softer.

“What’s wrong? Are you in pain? Did the treatment hurt?”

I shook my head.

He smiled and ruffled my hair, pulling a pillbox from his pocket and setting it on the nightstand.

“Rhea, this allergic reaction was severe. You’ll need continued treatment.”

“I’ve included the suppressants in here too. Remember to take them daily.”

I sat up slowly, my voice flat. “No need. I won’t be taking them anymore.”

His hands stilled. He looked up, studying me.

“That cold? Are you still mad at Sienna?”

He let out a soft sigh and reached for my hand.

“Sienna’s just a bit extreme. She doesn’t actually want to hurt you. Since you’re fine now, can we let it go? Please?”

I pulled away. “What if I hadn’t been fine this time?”

He blinked, then gave a helpless smile. “With me here? How could I ever let anything happen to you?”

My mate. The most powerful healer in the entire pack.

His healing could fix almost anything.

Over the years, Sienna had targeted me more times than I could count.

Minor things—throwing my pheromones into chaos, breaking me out in rashes.

Major things—tricking me into taking banned substances that corrode a wolf’s constitution.

But Theron fixed me every single time.

So of course, he thought this time would be no different.

He just stood there, those warm, deep-set eyes still holding that same gentle, tender look.

As if my near-death struggle was nothing more than a trivial drama.

When had it all started going wrong?

He used to care. I knew he did.

I remembered our mating ceremony. Sienna, just back from overseas, deliberately sideswiped my wedding car.

It crashed into the guardrail. I broke several ribs and was bedridden for weeks.

Theron was furious. He stayed by my side the whole time, nursing me.

He even went to Sienna and told her he was cutting her off for good.

That lasted all of three days. Until Sienna slit her wrists.

She lay in a bathtub full of blood, her face ghostly pale.

Theron carried her out, his face a mess of guilt and anguish.

When he came back, he rubbed his temples and said wearily, “Rhea, she’s the daughter of my father’s old friend. She’s not a bad person—she’s just in pain.”

“She needed some way to let it out. I don’t think she meant it personally.”

“She has no one but me. For my sake, can you please not hold it against her?”

That was when I learned they’d been childhood rivals who swore neither would ever take a mate—they’d keep fighting until old age.

But while Sienna was abroad training, he met me. Fell for me at first sight. Married me against all odds.

When Sienna found out, she lost it completely.

Theron didn’t listen. He went through with the wedding.

“Rhea, I wronged her first. We’re soulmates—we’re supposed to be of one heart. Just… give her some leeway, okay?”

Because of those words, I’d given ground for five years.

Step by step. Inch by inch.

Until this time, when she nearly killed me.
