The Lock That Had My Husband’s Name And Hers Chapter 08

The rideshare moved steadily down the highway.

Inside the car, it was.so quiet that all I could hear was the low hum of the engine.

Delaney and I sat side by side in the back seat. She kept staring out the window, tears slipping

silently down her face.

I handed her a tissue.

“Here.”

She took it and sniffed.

“Blythe… aren’t you upset?”

I stared blankly at the back of the seat in front of me.

“I am.”

“But more than anything, I’m relieved. Relieved I found out before I wasted the rest of my life on

him.”

Once we got back to the city, we found a quiet café and took a secluded booth in the back.

Two women who should have been rivals were now sitting across from each other like allies.

Delaney set her phone on the table and opened her photos and payment records.

“Blythe, these are records of everything he bought me.”

She scrolled through the screen.

“This necklace was about eight thousand dollars. The bag was around seventeen.”

“And…”

She bit her lip and pulled up a scanned copy of an electronic contract.

“There’s also a condo in the Lakecroft District. Last month, he put down over four hundred

thousand dollars and had it put in my name.”

“He said it was supposed to be our home.”

Over four hundred thousand dollars.

My breath caught.

Last month.

My breath caught as I realized when it had happened-last month, the same month Thayer ha

me home looking miserable and told me his company was running out of cash.

He had said things were so bad he might not even be able to make payroll.

That night, he had smoked half a pack of cigarettes and held my hand, practically begging to ask

my family for money to keep the company afloat.

I believed him.

I swallowed my pride and went to my father, who had always favored my brother over me.

After taking an earful from him, I still walked away with a seventy-thousand-dollar loan.

I thought I was helping my husband save his company.

Apparently, I had been helping him make the down payment on a home for another woman..

My hands began to shake.

Delaney saw my face and quickly pushed her phone toward me.

“Blythe, I don’t want any of it. Not the money, not the condo.”

“I can return every dollar he transferred to me.”.

“And tomorrow I’ll deal with the condo too. I’ll cancel whatever can still be canceled or transfer it back. If this ends up in court, I’ll cooperate and show that the money came from assets he had while

you were married.”

She looked straight at me.

“I don’t need his money.”

“It makes me sick.”

I took a deep breath and forced down the nausea rising in my throat.

“Thank you, Delaney.”

Just then, my phone lit up on the table.

Again.

And again.

The screen filled with missed calls from Thayer.

Then the messages started pouring in.

Thayer: [Bly, I was wrong. I know I screwed up.]

Thayer: [I got caught up in something new. I never really loved her. You know I’m weak when it

comes to temptation.]

Thayer: [I already blocked her. I’ll never talk to her again. Please forgive me this once]

Thayer: [Babe, we’ve been together for three years. Does that really mean less to you than some

outsider?]

I stared at the ridiculous messages and felt sick.

Delaney had seen them too. She gave a bitter laugh.

“Something new?”

“That’s definitely not what he was saying back at Stonecrest Ridge.”

A moment later, another message came in.

This time, from Cambria.

It was long.

Cambria: [Bly, I’m sorry. I know anything I say now is probably too late.

The truth is, I was jealous of you. Even back in college, you always seemed to have everything I wanted. And someone like Thayer loved you. Why did you get to have that too?

When I realized even he could cheat on you, something twisted in me actually felt better.

What I did was horrible. Yell at me, hit me, whatever you want. Just please don’t cut me out of your

life.]

I didn’t reply.

I calmly blocked both of their numbers and every account they could use to contact me.

At last, the world went quiet.

I picked up the coffee in front of me and drank it, even though it had already gone cold.

Then I looked at Delaney.
