The Lock That Had My Husband’s Name And Hers Chapter 09

The moment I opened the front door, a heavy cloud of cigarette smoke hit me.

The lights were off. The only thing visible in the living room was the faint glow of a cigarette near

the couch.

I flipped on the lights.

Under the harsh glare, Thayer was sitting on the carpet, looking completely wrecked. Two empty liquor bottles lay near his feet, and ash was scattered across the floor.

At the sound of the door, he jerked his head up. His eyes lit with sudden hope.

He scrambled toward me and tried to grab onto my legs.

“Bly, you came back! I knew you wouldn’t leave me!”

I stepped aside, avoiding him.

Without a word, I walked past him into the bedroom and pulled out my largest black suitcase.

The moment Thayer saw it, he panicked. He rushed in and slammed a hand down on top of it.

“What are you doing?”

“You can’t leave! I told you I’ll change. I already cut things off with that woman!”

“If you’re still angry, I’ll go deal with her tomorrow and get all the money back. Would that make you happy?”

I looked coldly at the man I had once loved so deeply.

Right now, he reminded me of a stray dog begging for scraps one second and ready to bite the next.

“You don’t need to get the money back.”

I opened the closet and calmly began taking out my clothes.

“Delaney has more integrity than you do. She thinks your money is disgusting.”

Thayer froze.

Then his temper exploded.

“Oh, please. Since when is she too good for my money? She was only with me for it in the first place!”

“Bly, she played me. She was the one who came after me!”

The doorbell rang.

Thayer stopped mid-sentence.

I ignored him and went to answer it.

Delaney stood outside with two enormous black bags behind her. When she saw me, small nod and dragged them inside.

The moment Thayer saw her, his expression changed.

“What are you doing here? Get out! You’re not welcome in my house!”

He pointed at her as if she were the problem.

she gave

Delaney didn’t even bother looking at him. She walked to the middle of the living room, unzipped

both bags, and dumped them out.

Designer handbags. Jewelry boxes. Limited-edition sneakers. Clothes with the tags still attached.

Everything spilled across Thayer’s expensive carpet like garbage.

“Thayer, I brought your crap back.”

Delaney dusted off her hands, her voice cold.

“And I canceled the condo purchase. The deposit went back to the account it came from. You can

check it yourself.”

Thayer stared at the pile of luxury goods on the floor. His lips trembled, but no words came out.

Delaney wasn’t finished. She pulled a small Bluetooth speaker from her pocket and pressed play.

Thayer’s voice came through clearly.

“Delaney, can we not talk about that frumpy wife of mine?”

“All she does is hang around the kitchen. She always smells like cooking grease. Just looking at her

turns my stomach.”

“You’re different. You’re soft, sweet, and you always smell good. Once I get the assets moved around, I’ll find a way to get rid of her.”

The recording ended.

The living room went dead silent.

I stood there, feeling as though the blood in my body had frozen.

I already knew what kind of man he was. But hearing him talk about me like that still sent a chill

rough my bones.

So this was what I got for spending years taking care of him.

Thayer seemed to collapse in on himself.

He sank to the floor and looked up at me desperately, reaching for the hem of my pants.

“Bly… I was drunk. I didn’t mean any of that.”

I stepped back and picked up my packed suitcase.

“Thayer, I made a copy of that recording.”

“It’s evidence of what you did during our marriage and your attempt to move marital assets.”

“I’ll see you in court.”

I stepped over the mess on the floor and walked out of the home that had been built on lies.

Behind me came Thayer’s desperate shouting and the sound of things being smashed.

I closed the door.

And shut all the betrayal and humiliation behind it.
