The Lock That Had My Husband’s Name And Hers Chapter 07

Delaney’s question left Cambria speechless.

Thayer finally seerned to pull himself together. He looked like he was making one last attempt to

regain control of the situation.

He turned to me first, softening his tone, though there was still an edge of command in

“Blythe, enough. Haven’t you made enough of a scene today?”

“Whatever this is, we can talk about it at home. Stop acting like this in front of everyone.”/

Then he turned urgently to Delaney.

“You’re still young. There are things you don’t understand.”

“Relationships are complicated. I swear, you’re the only one I love. Blythe and I are married on

paper, that’s all.”

He tried to pull Delaney into his arms.

He wanted it both ways.

He wanted me to stay quiet because I was his wife, while using the same lies about love to keep Delaney from leaving.

Unfortunately for him, he had misjudged both of us.

Delaney shoved him away so hard that he stumbled back two steps.

She was still crying, but she stood straight.

“Thayer, don’t treat me like I’m five.”

”

“I may not have much money, and maybe I was stupid enough to believe you, but I’m not going to

be someone’s other woman.”

Without hesitation, she tore the Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet from her wrist. The clasp scraped

across her skin and left a thin cut.

She didn’t even look at it.

Instead, she threw the bracelet straight at Thayer.

“Take your so-called love and all the crap you bought with lies and get away from me.”

Then she reached for the chain around her neck and unclasped it.

The silver ring from the chapel in Ireland-the one that was supposed to mean forever-hit the

pavement hard.

bounced twice before rolling into a crack beside the drain.

“And that stupid ceremonial marriage certificate? I’m burning it when I get home.”

Delaney wiped away her tears and walked over to me, lowering her head in apology.

“Blythe, I’m sorry.”

“I really didn’t know he was married. I would never knowingly get involved in someone else’s

marriage.”

“I don’t want him.”

She straightened and looked at me, her eyes clear and steady.

“If you end up taking him to court, I’ll testify for you.”

I looked at the young woman standing in front of me, five or six years younger than I was, and felt

something twist inside my chest.

She was braver than I had been.

The moment she learned the truth, she was able to walk away without looking back.

And I had spent three years believing I was building a life with Thayer, only to find out how much of

it had been a lie.

I took a deep breath, pushed down the sting behind my eyes, and nodded.

“You don’t need to apologize. None of this was your fault.”

Then I turned toward Thayer.

His face looked terrible.

He stared at the bracelet and ring on the ground as if something inside him had

“Thayer, it’s over.”

I pulled out my phone and ordered a rideshare back to the city.

gone empty.

“My attorney will send the divorce papers to your office at nine tomorrow morning.”

“You’d better sign them.”

Thayer’s head snapped up, his eyes red.

He rushed toward me and grabbed both of my shoulders, his fingers digging painfully into my skin.

“Blythe! You’re not leaving!”

“Who do you think you are? I pay for everything. Without me, what do you even have?”

The gentle mask was finally gone, revealing the anger underneath.

“You want a divorce? Forget it. If I have to drag this out forever, I will.”

ooked at his twisted expression and didn’t struggle.

I only gave him a cold smile.

“Fine.”

“Then we’ll see.”

I pried his fingers off my shoulders one by one.

“Thayer, you disgust me.”

Then I turned and took Delaney’s hand.

“Let’s go.”

She didn’t hesitate.

We walked away from Juniper Hollow Lodge together.

Behind us came Cambria’s crying and the sound of Thayer kicking the car door in anger.

The noise faded farther and farther behind us.

Like some absurd nightmare finally coming to an end.
