The Lock That Had My Husband’s Name And Hers Chapter 06

The wind outside Juniper Hollow Lodge seemed to have died down.

But the air between us felt colder than ever.

Delaney looked at Thayer, who still couldn’t bring himself to raise his head, then at Cambria, whose

guilt was written all over her face.

Finally, she looked at me.

She was young and naive, but she wasn’t stupid.

Their reactions had already told her everything.

“You’re married?”

She stepped toward Thayer, her voice trembling with disbelief.

Thayer lifted his head. His eyes were bloodshot.

He reached for her hand, but she jerked away from him like she couldn’t stand to be touched.

“Delaney, listen to me. I-”

The slap cut him off.

Her hand hovered in the air, her fingers still trembling.

A red handprint was already forming across Thayer’s cheek.

His head had snapped to the side, but he didn’t fight back. He just let his arms fall uselessly to his

sides.

“You lied to me!”

Delaney broke down, tears spilling down her face.

“You told me you were single!”

“You introduced me to all your friends. You took me to Ireland and made those vows with me!”

“You made me the other woman without even telling me?”

Still crying, she grabbed the puffer jacket hanging from his arm and swung it into his face.

“What the hell is wrong with you?”

Thayer let the jacket hit him and tried to explain, his voice strained.

“Delaney, it’s not what you think.”

“I really do love you. Blythe and I…”

He paused.

Then he glanced at me from the corner of his eye and forced the words out.

“There’s been nothing between us for a long time. We were going to get divorced soon. I just wanted to deal with everything first before I told you.”

I couldn’t help laughing.

I had never realized someone could be this shameless.

Nothing between us?

Just last week, when his stomach had been hurting, I had stayed up all night making him something bland he could keep down. Yesterday, he had texted me asking me to take his seasonal clothes out of storage and iron them.

And now, standing in front of another woman, he was claiming our marriage had been dead for

ages.

“Do you even believe that yourself, Thayer?”

I folded my arms and looked at him coldly.

Cambria hurried over, clearly trying to play peacemaker.

“Bly, stop making a scene in front of everyone. This is humiliating.”

She even reached toward me.

“Thayer had his reasons too. This is between you and your husband. Can’t you two just go home and talk about it privately?”

“Talk about it privately?”

I swung my hand across her face.

I didn’t hold back.

Cambria stumbled and fell to the ground, clutching her cheek as she stared up at me in disbelief.

“You hit me?”

“Yeah. I did.”

I looked down at her.

“Cambria, we’ve known each other for ten years. Do you remember what you told me when I got married?”

“You said even if everyone else turned against me, you’d still be on my side.”

I pulled out my phone, opened our message history, and held the screen in front of her.

“Six months ago, you warned me about the new intern at his company. You said she was trouble and

told me to watch out for her.”

“You even told me you’d already called her out for me.”

“And then what?”

“You turned around and became her closest friend. You covered for them, watched them act like a

couple right in front of you, and then used some fake blind date as your excuse to be here today.”

My voice shook with anger.

“Cambria, did you ever feel guilty about any of this?”

She sat on the ground, tears streaking through her makeup.

Still holding her cheek, she tried to defend herself.

“What was I supposed to do? Thayer’s my boss. I still have to work for him…”

“And Delaney’s a good person. She didn’t know anything. I just didn’t want her to get hurt-”

“You didn’t want her to get hurt, but you were fine with destroying me?”

I cut her off sharply, my chest rising and falling.

This was my best friend. She had watched me bleed so someone else could stay happy.

Delaney stood nearby, listening with a face gone white.

When she looked at Cambria now, all the warmth was gone from her eyes. Only disappointment and disgust remained.

“So you knew the whole time. You watched me brag about him like an idiot.”

“Did you think it was funny?”
