Julian approached me again, his eyes red. He tried to pull me 

into a hug. 

His voice was thick with tears: “Ellie, I’m so sorry. I was a 

jerk.” 

“You’ve worked so hard. I won’t ever do it again.” 

“Forgive me this once. I was such an idiot.” 

As he held me, I cried, but then I let out a cold, cynical laugh. 

Watching him hold me and apologize, Brooke also began to laugh through her tears. 

She scrambled up from the floor and pulled at Julian’s arm. 

She forced us apart and slapped Julian with all her strength: 

“Then what about me! How are you going to make it up to me! 

You bastard!” She almost fell again. 

Her whole body was shaking, her makeup ruined by her tears. 

Julian offered a guilty statement: 

“I’m sorry. I deceived you, and I wasted your time.” 

“You’ll find someone better. I’m just a piece of trash.” 

I laughed. 

At least he knew he was trash. 

Brooke laughed hysterically: 

“Trash? Trash!” 

Julian didn’t give her another look. He turned back to me, his 

eyes welling up again. 

“Babe, can we just go home?” I looked at the crying infant in my arms and asked him: 

“What about her? What are you going to do?” “I know you 

always wanted a daughter. If you’re willing to raise her, we can keep her with us.” 

Brooke was so distraught she could barely stand. By the time she reached me, she had fallen to her knees. 

Her eyes, which were once bright as gems, were now flooded with tears. 

She was so nervous she could barely speak. 

“Ma’am, please… I’m begging you, give me back my child.” 

She reached out her hands tentatively, terrified of upsetting me and causing me to hurt the baby. 

“I won’t fight you for him. You can have him back.” 

She was sobbing uncontrollably. 

“You can’t have my child.” 

“I wasn’t trying to be the ‘other woman.‘ I really didn’t know he had a family.” 

“Please, give her back to me.” 

She was a victim too; I didn’t blame her. 

Seeing her so humble for the sake of her child, as a mother, I was moved. 

I began to unfasten the gold bracelet from the baby’s wrist. Brooke was so afraid I’d hurt the girl that she wanted to tell 

me to be careful, but didn’t dare. 

“Relax. I won’t hurt her. If I wanted to do that, I wouldn’t have 

waited this long.” 

As I spoke, I had already removed the jewelry. 

The baby started whimpering; she was probably hungry. 

Brooke pleaded: “She’s hungry. I need to feed her. Can I have her now?” “I need you to answer a few questions. Don’t worry, I’m not going to take your child. I have my own.” 

She nodded, looking as if she would tell me anything she knew. 

“Since you’ve been together, including the ‘wedding‘ and gifts, how much money has Julian given you?” She didn’t hesitate and looked me in the eye: 

“He gave me $180,000 as a ‘dowry‘ and spent about $150,000 on a designer jewelry suite.” 

“After we ‘married,‘ he provided an allowance of between $30,000 and $50,000 a month. He used his annual bonus to 

buy me a luxury bracelet every year.” 

“In total, he’s given me about $2,300,000 in cash and $300,000 in jewelry.” 

“I stopped working after we got married. I really didn’t know
