I took a step back, pulling my arm away. 

I didn’t let him take the microphone. 

“Answer me! How many homes do you have? Who is your wife? And what are you doing here today?” Brooke, agitated, crowded him, pulling at his arm: 

“Answer her!” Forced into a corner, Julian had to respond. 

“You are my wife. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have cheated.” 

The room erupted again. 

Brooke broke down, hitting him repeatedly: 

“Then what am I?” “Julian, how could you do this to me!” She suddenly remembered something and gripped his arm: 

“No, that’s not right. We have a marriage certificate. I’m your legal wife!” Julian didn’t dare look at her as he admitted: 

“The certificate is fake.” 

Brooke collapsed onto the floor, her wailing heartbreaking. 

She shrieked at him: 

“Fake?” “You gave me a wedding, you stood by me when my parents passed.” “Now we have a child together, and you tell me it’s all fake?” “Julian, how could you do this to me!” Knowing he was in the wrong, Julian stood between Brooke and me, caught in an impossible position. 

I said to Brooke: 

“He treated you better than he treated me.” 

“He only gave me $19,000 a month–his base pay! All his 

commissions went to you.” 

“He bought you real gold every year; he bought me fakes.” 

“The whole story about being stationed out–of–state was a lie; he’s been living with you as your husband!” I lifted her daughter’s hand and rattled the gold bracelet on her wrist: 

“Do you know where this jewelry came from?” She looked 

lost, waiting for the answer. 

“Seven years ago, I was pregnant with twins.” 

“My mother commissioned a custom set of Dragon and 

Phoenix jewelry.” 

“She had the name ‘Skylar Joy‘ engraved on the back and took 

it for a spiritual blessing.” 

“By the way, your daughter’s name was the one I chose for the daughter I lost.” 

“I never thought he would give my lost daughter’s things to 

yours.” 

My voice choked up as I said this. 

Thinking of that child still caused a sharp, stabbing pain. 

I looked at the in–laws standing in the center of the crowd: 

“My dear mother–in–law even wanted to take the Dragon piece my son is wearing now to give to this illegitimate granddaughter.” 

My heart had turned to ice. Years of devotion were met with 

this betrayal by my husband’s family. 

It felt like someone was strangling the life out of me. 

“Seven years of marriage. How did I treat you?” “You claimed to love me like a daughter. Is this how you love?” “In seven years, you two have been in and out of the hospital so many times, and I was the only one by your bedside.” 

“Mom, I took care of everything from the cooking to the cleaning, while you didn’t lift a finger.” 

“Since I entered this family, you haven’t had to set foot in a 

kitchen once.” 

“Two days ago, you said you were going on vacation, and I gave you $8,000 for it.” 

“I treated you like my own parents.” 

“And you? What did you do to me? What did you do to your only grandson?” Publicly called out, my mother–in–law looked like she wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear. 

The guests‘ comments stripped away what little dignity they 

had left. 

“Unbelievable. The guy is trash, but the parents actually encouraged him to cheat and keep a mistress!” “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. They’re all ungrateful.” 

“They didn’t know how to treasure such a good wife. Anyone who enters that family is doomed.”
