The room went dead silent for a second. 

Every eye turned to me on the stage. 

Then an uproar broke out; the guests‘ whispers sounded like boiling water. 

Julian looked as if he’d been struck by a thunderbolt, staring up at me. 

My in–laws‘ expressions were even worse. 

Brooke Harrison was paralyzed with shock. 

But she still instinctively chose to trust Julian. 

She ran to my side, trying to keep her composure, and asked me politely: 

“I’m sorry, I didn’t get your name. I thought you were Julian’s colleague.” 

“Is there some misunderstanding between you and Julian?” “We can talk this through. Could you please give me back my baby?” My icy expression and sharp gaze frightened her. 

She tentatively reached out her hands, 

terrified that in my agitation I might hurt her child. 

I didn’t give the baby back. Instead, I told her: 

“I am his wife of seven years. We have a six–year–old son.” 

“You tell me, is there a ‘misunderstanding‘ between us?” Brooke’s face went pale, her legs giving way as she stumbled back. 

As she realized the truth, tears began to stream down her face: 

“This… how is this possible?” “Julian, tell me, how long have we been married?” I deliberately threw the question to Julian. 

The word “Julian” was laced with heavy irony. 

The crowd’s gaze scorched him like fire. 

His face turned a deep, humiliated red, and he stood there, paralyzed by guilt. 

Voices began to ripple through the crowd: 

“I thought Julian was a divorcee; turns out he’s still married.” 

“Which one is the real wife? Two wives just showed up at once.” 

“No wonder the woman on stage was so quiet. I noticed her face looked off earlier.” 

I looked at my in–laws, who were equally humiliated: 

“Dad, Mom, you tell her. Who is your daughter–in–law?” Brooke also stared fixedly at the in–laws and Julian. 

The in–laws lowered their heads, refusing to answer. 

Julian looked as if a knife were at his throat. He slowly, 

painfully walked up to the stage. 

Brooke grabbed his arm, sobbing: 

“Tell me! What is going on?” “Between her and me, who is the 

other woman?” Julian tried to soothe her guiltily: 

“Don’t get upset. I’ll explain everything slowly.” 

Brooke wouldn’t let it go, insisting: 

“I want you to say it now!” She pointed her ring–clad finger at 

me: 

“Someone just crashed our baby’s party. This needs to be 

made clear in front of everyone!” “Whether I’m the mistress or she is, we’ve both been deceived by you. We’re both victims!” 

I recognized that ring. When I married Julian, I had fallen in love with that exact design. 

But it cost over $18,000, which was too expensive for us then. 

In the end, I chose a simple $1,800 gold band. 

At the time, Julian’s eyes had welled up with emotion, and he promised me that he would buy me that ring when we were better off. 

He was better off now, but the ring was on another woman’s 

hand. 

Julian looked up at me, his eyes a mix of complicated emotions 

and crushing shame. 

His lips moved with difficulty: 

“I’m sorry. Let’s not do this here. Can we please go home and 

talk?” His voice was tiny, only audible to the three of us. 

I was seething and asked loudly: 

“Julian, what did you say?” My voice, amplified by the 

microphone, reached every ear in the room. 

“Are you saying we should go home? Which home? The one you share with me, or the one you share with Brooke?” He 

looked even more ashamed, unable to face me. 

He took a step forward, reaching for the microphone: 

“I’m begging you, stop.”
