The Gaming God Hated Clingy Girls Until He Met Me Chapter 06

Dinner wrapped up.

Ethan planned to drive me back to campus.

But the moment we stepped into the parking garage, his phone rang. It was his esports team.

Apparently, an urgent crisis had popped up at the base that required his immediate attention.

Clutching the lace trim of my top, my body swaying slightly from the wine, I offered a rare moment of sweet

understanding. “I can just call an Uber, hubby.”

Ethan held onto my waist, his gaze dark and unreadable as his Adam’s apple bobbed. “Do you have any idea

what you look like right now?”

Right then, Audrey stepped out of the elevator and quickly put two and two together.

“Ethan, go take care of your business. I was actually planning to head back to our old campus to visit a

professor anyway, so I can easily give Lily a ride.”

Ethan nodded, turning his gaze back to me. “Text me the second you get to your dorm.”

With Audrey standing right there, I silently mouthed to him. “Got it, hubby.”

“Lily,” Ethan called out just as I turned away.

“Yeah?”

“Next time I see you, I have something important to tell you.”

“Ooh, I can’t wait, Ethan!” I dragged out my words in a playful, syrupy cadence before bouncing over to sit in

Audrey’s passenger seat.

Rush hour traffic was brutal.

As the car ground to another complete halt, Audrey smiled and broke the silence. “So, you and Ethan…”

My brain was a bit fuzzy from the alcohol, but I knew exactly what she was digging for. I gave a perfectly

blunt answer. “I’m chasing him.”

She looked momentarily stunned. “Wow, you and Chase really are cut from the same cloth-bold, passionate, and completely transparent.”

“Since you’re being so open, I’ll be honest with you too.” Audrey turned her head, her eyes sweeping over my

outfit once more.

“Lily, Ethan Sterling doesn’t do sweet, cute girls.”

“What do you mean?”

Audrey slowly eased the car forward as traffic moved. “He absolutely hates it when girls put on a baby voice to act cute, and he loathes that sugary, ultra-feminine aesthetic. And let’s be real, you’re not the type of girl who alters her entire personality for a guy.”

“So, from the very beginning, the two of you were fundamentally a mismatch.”

Saying this, Audrey handed me her phone. A video was playing-a clip from an esports team dinner where

they were playing Truth or Dare.

Ethan had clearly lost.

One of his teammates leaned in. “Ethan, name your absolute least favorite type of girl. You can’t say ‘none’

you have to pick one.”

Ethan sat slightly back in the shadows, answering in a slow, deliberate tone. “Sugary, overly cute girls.”

Another teammate immediately chimed in to back him up.

“Oh, totally! Especially the hyper-energetic ones who have zero concept of personal boundaries. Ethan can’t

stand them. The number of girls like that he’s rejected could fill a stadium.”

Throughout the exchange, Ethan didn’t utter a single word of protest.

My heart instantly sank to the absolute bottom of my chest.

Audrey took her phone back, letting out a sympathetic sigh.

“Lily, you’re still young. You don’t realize how brutally cold guys can be to someone they don’t like. I’ve been

burned by that before, and I’d hate to see you get hurt the same way.”

I looked at her. “Are you in love with Ethan?”

Audrey shook her head. “We’re just friends.”

“High-society families are absolute shark tanks. Growing up in that environment, Ethan learned to mask his

emotions flawlessly. Even though we grew up together, half the time I have absolutely no clue what’s going

on in his head.”

“All I’m saying is, your dream guy is a lot more dangerous and complex than you think.”

The rest of the drive was met with pure silence.

I couldn’t stop replaying everything I had done over the past few weeks. Literally every single move I made had landed squarely on Ethan’s pet peeves.

So… had he just been forcing himself to tolerate my annoying behavior out of sheer politeness this entire

time?

If that was the case, the guy’s manners were almost terrifyingly good.

And there I was, acting like an absolute idiot, thinking we were actually getting closer.

The short drive felt like an eternity.

The moment I stepped out of the car at the campus gates, I spotted Chase standing near a fruit stand, one hand shoved in his pocket, looking around.

Even though he looked completely impatient from waiting, he still hadn’t missed the chance to flirt and exchange numbers with a pretty girl passing by.
