The next day was Leona’s mating ceremony. Everyone was up early.

Suddenly, Leona’s panicked voice rang through the pack house.

“Mom! Vanessa’s not in her room. She never came back!”

Our Luna mother went rigid. “That’s impossible. Today is her mating ceremony too.’

Leona dragged the two leather suitcases out of my bedroom. “She didn’t take anything. She didn’t even take

these.”

Killian waved it off. “Relax. She probably went straight to the venue. She’s never actually stayed mad after a

fight.”

Mother forced down the uneasy feeling gnawing at her and agreed. “Leona, hurry up and get ready. Let’s

head over.”

“Don’t wait for her. Your ceremony is more important.”

They drove straight to the hotel banquet hall they’d reserved.

But the receptionist gave Leona an odd look.

“Weren’t you already picked up by an Alpha yesterday?”

“What?”

Leona was the first to react. “The one who came yesterday, was it Alpha Morgan?”

The receptionist nodded. “That’s right. I heard they already completed their mating ceremony. Why are they doing it again today?”

Mother swayed on her feet. “Yesterday? Mating ceremony? What has Vanessa done?”

Killian’s voice came from beside her. “Vanessa’s phone is off. I can’t reach her.”

They stood there in silence for a long moment.

Leona pouted. “How could Vanessa move her ceremony up without even inviting us? That’s so unfair.”

But for the first time, nobody echoed her words.

Nobody picked up where she left off to blame me.

It was Alpha Father who steadied the situation. “We’ll deal with this after Leona’s ceremony.”

At the venue, one of the pack elders pulled Mother aside.

“I thought both daughters were having their ceremonies today? I heard Alpha Morgan took Vanessa away yesterday is that true?”

“Why didn’t anyone tell me?”

Mother opened her mouth but couldn’t produce a single word.

How could she explain? Could she really admit that she, the mother, hadn’t known either?

So she just smiled awkwardly and changed the subject.

After the ceremony, once every guest had been seen off, Leona started ‘complaining to Killian.

“I’m exhausted. Can you handle all the follow-up for me? I’m meeting friends tonight.”

But Killian just looked at her quietly. “Leona, aren’t you worried about Vanessa?”

Leona flicked her wrist dismissively. “She’d never actually leave on her own. She’ll be back.”

Killian said nothing.

He watched her standing there like that, and for the first time, a bad feeling crept through him.

This time felt different from before.

That evening, the moment they walked through the door, Mother rushed to my bedroom.

The blanket was folded neatly, same as always.

She searched everywhere for some trace of me, but all she found in the drawer was a medical report.

Diagnosis: Chronic gastritis.

Precautions: Avoid spicy and irritating foods.

Her hand clenched around the paper so hard her knuckles went white.

Then Alpha Father walked in, holding the mating ceremony invitation I’d left behind.

“Vanessa left this. It’s been sitting in the front hall for a while. The date was changed a long time ago.”

Killian murmured to himself. “Why? Why would she hide something this important from us?”

“How could she go through with a mating bond without her parents’ blessing?”

Mother held the report. Tears fell onto it, one drop after another.

“She never hid anything from us. We just never paid attention.”

Suddenly, Killian seemed to remember something. “I’ll call her mate right now. Alpha Morgan will tell us

where she is.”

He pulled out his phone, then froze.

He didn’t have Morgan’s number. It wasn’t in his contacts. It had never been.

His voice came out stiff. “Do any of you have Alpha Morgan’s contact information?”

My small bedroom went completely silent. No one answered.
