Gyla never came home.

She hadn’t taken anything from the house, either.

Just as everyone started debating whether they should call the police, Mirelle walked in.

She took a sip of her iced vanilla latte, openly annoyed.

“Seriously? What are you all freaking out about?”

“My sister’s getting more dramatic by the day. Now she leaves some ridiculous letter saying she’s cutting ties with us, like she actually means it.”

She scoffed.

“She’s just pulling another disappearing act so everyone will panic and go looking for her. She wants

attention.”

“Well, congrats. It worked. Go find her. She’s probably hiding somewhere right now, loving every second of

this.”

The worry that had just started spreading through the room disappeared almost instantly.

Cyra’s mother sighed.

“She’s done this before. Give her a couple of days. She’ll come back.”

Tamsin relaxed too.

“Exactly. Mrs. Bellmont, don’t worry. Cyra always runs off, sulks for a day or two, then comes back on her own. We should just carry on like normal.”

Mirelle set her drink on the table.

“Mom, I’m starving. I want ribs.”

Mom’s expression softened immediately.

“Of course. I’ll make them now. You just got out of the hospital. You need a proper meal.”

Soon, the house filled with the clatter of pots and pans and the hiss of food cooking.

Steam rose from the pot as the smell of dinner spread through the kitchen.

Only Stellan stayed where he was, lost in thought.

For days, he had kept asking doctors whether the drug had caused any permanent damage. He hadn’t

relaxed until they assured him her voice could fully recover.

He had been counting the days.

He had even prepared a gift, planning to explain everything to Cyra in person.

More than once, he had picked up his phone, wanting to ask if there was anything she wanted.

But every time he saw the last message in their chat, his irritation returned.

[Stellan, we’re done.]

So he never sent anything

It didn’t matter, he told himself.

Give it a few days, and Cyra would come back and apologize first.

But now…

Ten full days had passed.

Since the day they met, he had never gone this long without hearing from her.

His unease kept growing until the conversation around him faded into the background.

By my third month in Morrowfield, my voice had fully recovered.

Life at my new conservatory was going better than I ever expected.

My professors couldn’t stop praising my talent, and little by little, my name started circulating in the music

community.

The voice those drugs had suppressed for months was finally mine again, clear and bright. Singing felt freer

than it ever had before.

Stellan’s call caught me off guard.

The call came from a number I didn’t recognize, so I answered without thinking much of it.

The second I heard his hoarse, urgent voice, I paused.

“Cyra, finally… Please don’t hang up.”

“Listen to me. Everything that happened before was a misunderstanding.”

“You know Miri has a heart condition. Everyone had to go along with her. I didn’t really have a choice.”

“But you’re the only person I ever wanted to marry. I handled things badly, and everyone got the wrong

idea.”

“I’ve explained everything to them now. Your mom misses you too…”

When I stayed silent, his breathing grew heavier. His voice dropped, suddenly cautious.

“I saw the videos of you singing. Your voice is back, isn’t it?”

“Can you just say something? One word. Please… let me hear your voice.”

I cut him off calmly.

“Stellan, we broke up. You don’t need to explain any of this to me anymore.”

Noise erupted on the other end of the call.

Then Mom’s tearful voice pushed through.

“Cyra, please come home…”

“If you don’t want to come back, fine. Just tell me where you are, okay? I can’t stand not knowing whether you’re safe out there by yourself.”

I closed my eyes.

“You weren’t worried about me when you were drugging me?”

The line went dead silent.
