The Fake Heiress Took My Name, My Family, and My Fiancé Chapter 07

Before the Sullivans could respond, I grabbed my things and left.

The house was already clean. I lay on the couch, staring at my phone, a bunch of missed calls and unread texts. I sighed.

My master, old as he was, still loved throwing tantrums.

He got mad that I wouldn’t deal with his fortune properly, so he threw me off the mountain.

I knew he was afraid the calamity would come after me and kill me.

I thought I’d solve it fast, but it was taking more work than I expected.

“Thief”, on the surface, that pointed straight at Mira. But if I hadn’t gone to the Sullivans, she wouldn’t have

bothered hunting me down. So why did the fortune show that?

I sat up straight. After thinking for a while, I decided to start with Mira.

The Sullivans went ahead with their plan. They announced we were fraternal twins. I was the older sister, Mira the younger. That covered up what Mira had done and gave the Harringtons a clean daughter-in-law.

To make it a double celebration, they combined Derek and Mira’s engagement party with a welcome party for

The date was set for seven days later.

Zachary told me, holding an invitation. “I tried to talk them out of it, but they insist. Sage, if you don’t want to

go…”

“No,” I said, taking the invitation. I flipped through it slowly. “Seven days is enough.”

Zachary was used to me saying things he didn’t understand. He ruffled my hair and sighed. “Sage, I know this isn’t fair. But I promise you, what’s yours will stay yours.”

I didn’t answer. He left quietly.

Feeling guilty, Richard and Eleanor started contacting me nonstop. Jewelry, houses, handbags, homemade soup, pastries, everything arrived at my doorstep.

After I’d lost count of how many deliveries I’d sent back, I looked at Eleanor’s hopeful face and asked, “Are you blowing up my phone like this because you’re scared I’ll make a scene at the engagement party

tomorrow?”

Eleanor was stunned. She staggered back, hurt. “Sage, I’m your mother. Why does everything I do for you

have to be some kind of scheme?”

I gave her a cold smile. “What if I do cause a scene tomorrow? What if I stand up and tell everyone Mira’s not your daughter, that you two cooked up this twin story because you’re terrified of losing the Harringtons?”

“No!” Eleanor blurted, then went pale. “Sage, can’t you understand? The group is in trouble. A lot of

companies wanted to help us, but you wouldn’t let them. If we lose the Harringtons too, your father’s life’s work will be destroyed.”

I laughed out loud. Then I leaned close to Eleanor’s ear. “I’ve always known. You resent me.”

“…”

I cut her off. “Save the lies. I’ll be out of your hair soon enough. You’re my real mother. That means you want

me safe. Isn’t that how it works?”

Under her complicated stare, I turned and walked away without looking back.
