The Dress Swap That Exposed Her Perfect Lie Chapter 14

Across the table, Vera watched Ethan’s lips move.

The moment she figured out what he’d said, her eyes turned venomous.

I caught her glare, then looked away and gave Ethan a bright smile. “Can I see your phone for a sec?”

Ethan froze for a beat, then handed it over like he’d just woken up, his tone almost giddy. “I think I started liking you that day. When your eyes were all red and you looked like you were about to cry. I felt… I don’t know. Something. It bugged the hell out of me.”

“And I’ve had time to think about it-what I feel for Vera is just habit. With you, it’s different. When you ignore

me, it drives me insane.”

I scrolled through his phone, my fingers moving fast.

I found the group chat easily. No Hazel.

Right at the top, Ethan was the one who’d created it.

The first message read: [Hazel’s glued to me 24/7. I’m getting PTSD just hearing her name. Can I get five minutes of peace?]

[@Vera @Liam, can we leave five minutes early tonight? It’s my birthday and I just want it quiet. Hazel’s too

loud.]

The air froze. All I could hear was Ethan’s heavy breathing.

His arrogance cracked. He looked panicked. “Let me explain, back then I was just…”

“It’s fine. I was the one who had a one-sided crush. I was the one chasing you.” I searched my own contact, blocked and deleted myself, then handed the phone back.

“I’m really sorry my feelings caused you so much trouble. Vera kept encouraging me, you know. She said you didn’t hate me, you just needed time. Well, you’ll never have to deal with me again.”
