The Dress Swap That Exposed Her Perfect Lie Chapter 02

“Oh, wow, Hazel Vance holding her tongue? What’s the occasion?”

He pressed a hand to my forehead in mock concern.

“No fever.”

His eyes dropped to the stuff in my arms.

He let out a knowing oh.

“So it’s that time of the month. Almost forgot you’re a girl. Man, I always figured you had to be more like your deskmate to count as one.”

I was shaking with rage, tears blurring my vision.

Then a pink thermos appeared in front of me.

I stared at the hand holding it, slender, defined knuckles.

Slowly, I looked up.

It was Ethan Shaw.

The guy who’d been avoiding me like a plague.

I was too stunned to move.

After a long beat, I tentatively reached for it and asked, “Is this… for me?”

Ethan looked down at me. The moment he noticed my red-rimmed eyes, his Adam’s apple bobbed.

He turned away and said flatly, “Give it to Vera. She’s about to start her period, and I don’t want her cramping up. It’s, ”

“Got it.” I took the thermos, crushed, and bolted out of the store like a coward.

But at the checkout, I still heard Liam asking Ethan, “God, she looked ridiculous in that dress. You should’ve seen her back in Little League—total beast. Never thought I’d see the day she’d actually put on a skirt.”

I don’t know if Ethan was even looking.

But I heard him give a flat “Yeah.”
