The Don’s Reborn Lover Chapter 07

When Adrian’s mother, Nora, saw me, she gave me a 

gentle smile. 

The moment she heard I was staying for a meal, she immediately sent Adrian out to stock up on groceries. 

She wrote on a note: 

[It’s not every day one of his classmates comes over. I have to treat you right. You have no idea he acts all cold, but deep down he’s just a clueless dork. No 

wonder he doesn’t have any friends.] 

She made me laugh. 

Apparently, she had no idea her son was actually a mob boss everyone feared. 

I went grocery shopping with Adrian. 

He took me to his beat–up old pickup truck, and I swear 

it was the shabbiest car I had ever ridden in. 

A little embarrassed, he leaned over to fasten my seat 

belt for me. “As long as my mom doesn’t get triggered, 

she’s just like anyone else. Don’t be scared of her.” 

“I’m not. Your mom is funny and really sweet.” 

He drove for a while, then suddenly asked, “Was it your dad who did that to you?” 

He was still thinking about the wounds on my body. 

My silence was answer enough. 

I was a state senator’s daughter. 

Who would dare lay a hand on me? 

No one would–except my own father. 

Adrian’s chest rose and fell as he fought down his anger. “Next time, don’t just stand there and take it.” 

“If he hits you again, make a scene. Make sure 

everyone knows. Call the police. Call a shelter or a protection hotline. Make him understand there’s a price for putting his hands on you.” 

I smiled at him. 

“Okay. Next time, I’ll fight back.” 

That only seemed to make him angrier. He smacked the steering wheel in frustration. “Sebastian being that clean–cut snake is one thing, but you’re so sweet and lovable. Why the hell would he hit you?” 

“Whatever reason he gives is just an excuse to use 

violence. He got a taste of power through hurting 

people, and now he’s addicted to it.” 

“If he doesn’t cut that shit out, call me. I’ll beat the hell 

out of him for you.” 

He really was cocky. My father was a state senator, and 

at that point Adrian wasn’t even in any position to 

stand in front of him. 

Even so, I smiled and said, “Okay.” 

After we got out of the truck, I stepped on Adrian’s shadow in the warm spring sunlight. 

The day I died had been so cold, and I liked basking in 

the sun. 

Adrian was absurdly capable. 

His hands were full of grocery bags, and he refused to let me carry a single one. He even bought me a box of strawberries so I could snack on them while we walked. 

Once we got back, he tied on an apron and got busy in the kitchen. Both ovens were going at once, and in half an hour he had roasted a chicken, made spaghetti and 

meatballs, toasted garlic bread, and tossed a huge 

salad. 

Nora handed me another note. 

[He can do just about anything. He likes taking over 

and handling everything himself.] 

I knew. 

He was intensely controlling. 

Back when I was his plaything, he had personally 

bought every one of my clothes, my jewelry, my 

handbags, even my watches, and picked out how I wore 

them too. 

When Adrian brought the dishes to the table, I suddenly realized something. 

Everything he made was exactly what I liked to eat. 

Had he noticed all that while secretly watching me in 

the cafeteria? 

In my last life, the truth was that we had both fallen for 

each other. 

This time, I would protect you with everything I had. 

All I wanted was for us to get the ending we never got 

before. 

After that meal, neither Adrian nor I mentioned what 

had happened in his room, as if the comfort we had given each other there had only been a dream. 

The next time I saw him was back at school. 

At this point in my last life, the class seating chart had been rearranged, and I was supposed to be seated next 

to Adrian. 

But I hadn’t wanted to sit with him, so I had gone to the 

teaching assistant and asked to switch seats. 

This time, I happily sat down beside him. 

I smiled at him, eyes curved bright with it. 

“Morning, desk buddy.” 

Adrian’s eyes lit up when he looked at me, and he said, 

“Morning.”
