The Don’s Forgotten Wife Took Down His Empire Chapter 06

I guessed my smile looked too creepy, because Serena snapped, yelling—

“What are you laughing at? Think I’m wrong?

“Fine then. I’ll show you what your life was always supposed to look like!”

Serena dragged me to her car, and Damian followed, shaking his head.

We drove over bumpy roads the whole way, until we hit the slums of South Brooklyn.

Homeless people laid scattered all across the cramped alley. When they saw two women wander in

late at night, their eyes lit up like hungry wolves.

But they all backed off, scared of Damian’s aura and the soldiers trailing behind him.

Serena yelled at me, “See this? If it weren’t for the Moretti family, you’d be just like them!”

I chuckled under my breath. How could that be?

My parents worked their asses off, I studied hard and built a good life. I would never be like them.

Serena shoved me hard out of the car. “You’re gonna live here for three days. Let you feel how hard

it is to earn a dollar!”

Damian frowned. “Serena, isn’t this place a little too rough?”

“Oh, so you feel bad for your wife now?” Serena snapped, narrowing her eyes at him.

He laughed tiredly and turned to me. “Scarlett, I’ll send someone to pick you up in three days.”

The Maybach peeled out right in front of me.

I snickered and flipped them off.

Did they really think I’d just do what they said?

With my mom gone, the Moretti family had nothing left to hold me with.

But the homeless guys behind me, like they’d been waiting for this, cornered me against a brick

wall.

They couldn’t wait to tear my clothes off.

I flipped the first one over my shoulder without thinking!

I was a Mafia Donna, and the daughter of the old Don’s most trusted man. I’d trained in every kind

of self-defense since I was a kid.

But there were too many of them.

My hands got pinned tight, I couldn’t move an inch.

I stared them dead in the eye. “I’m with the Moretti family.”

Back in the day, that name always worked.

But the guy leading them dragged a hand down my face. “We know. You’re the Moretti Donna.

That’s exactly who we want.”

Got it.

That bitch set this up.

I closed my eyes. Shame? Fear? Begging?

I had none of it. My heart died with my mom.

I just wanted this over with, so I could meet up with my contact, and then… kill every last one of

them!

Right when that dirty hand went for the last piece of clothing on my body…

Warm blood splattered across my face.

I opened my eyes. The guy who’d been on top of me toppled over, eyes wide, a dark bloody hole

blown through his skull.

In the distance-

An FBI warning blasted through the alley.

A pair of expensive leather shoes stopped right in front of me.

I recognized that familiar face. “You’re late.”

On the drive back, Damian was distracted.

“Serena, did you ever take care of that hospital payment I told you to send?”

Even if he was playing this silly little sugar daddy game with Serena, that was still his mother in law. He couldn’t just abandon her.

Serena panicked, stammering out. “O-of course I did. Don’t you trust me?”

When Damian just stayed quiet, she whined and changed the subject. “Take me out on the yacht tonight, you promised me yesterday.”

Damian huffed, annoyed, and glanced at Serena out the corner of his eye.

She was head to toe in designer.

Even the necklace around her neck was a piece from an international auction.

When did it happen? This woman he’d once thought was humble and independent had gotten so

greedy for luxury.

But when he saw her begging, big sad eyes, he softened.

Whatever, he hadn’t gotten bored of her yet.

“Fine, we’ll go soon. Wait in the car for me, I need to head home for something.”
