The Daughter They Threw Away Came Back Wearing His Ring Chapter 09

The Daughter They Threw Away Came Back Wearing His Ring Chapter 09

The wedding arrived on schedule.

Since I had no family to stand on my side, Spencer secretly contacted every friend I had made in the

last five years.

They showed up on their own.

They formed a small army of bridesmaids and accompanied me to the hotel in high spirits.

When it was time to exchange rings, I caught a glimpse of Kylie by the door.

She stood half hidden behind a floral arch, staring at me.

Her eyes glinted with tears.

I looked away and focused on Spencer as he slid the diamond ring firmly onto my finger.

The whole room erupted into cheers.

At that exact moment, the nine-tier pink champagne tower beside me lurched and began to crash toward my side.

Spencer reacted instantly.

He yanked me behind him and shielded me with his body.

Bottles rained down with a series of sharp crashes.

He let out a muffled groan as several smashed against his back.

Shards of glass sliced across my cheek.

While Spencer bent over to check my face, Gina suddenly darted out from behind him.

In her hand was a long fireplace match.

Only then did I smell it.

Not champagne.

Fuel.

Someone had soaked the fabric around the tower and the base of the floral arch with accelerant.

Gina struck the match and threw it toward us.

Flames roared up at once.

The soaked decorations caught instantly, and a wall of heat swallowed us.

“Go to hell, Addison!”

The blaze threw a wild glare across her face, twisting her features with madness.

The sprinklers in the ballroom had been tampered with beforehand and stayed stubbornly dry.

The soft fabric decorations hanging everywhere caught easily.

In seconds, the joyful hall became a burning maze.

Guests screamed and bolted for the exits.

Some cried.

Some stumbled.

Only Gina stepped closer, as if she was afraid to miss a single second of my pain.

“You stole my healthy body.”

“You stole the parents who belonged to me.”

“And now you want to steal the husband who should have been mine.”

“You were my blood bag. My servant.”

“When I was done with you, you should have disappeared quietly.”

“Why didn’t you die?”

“This is all your own fault.”

Spencer held his breath and rolled across the floor to smother the fire on his clothes.

Then he staggered toward the fire extinguisher in the corner.

“Eleanor, close your eyes!”

He had just aimed the nozzle at my burning wedding dress when something slammed into him and

knocked him sideways.

Kylie charged through the smoke, hauling a huge basin of water.

She threw it over me with both hands.

“Addison, wake up!”

She ignored the growing flames around us and tore at my scorched dress.

Then she ripped it away and wrapped me in a heavy coat.

Stephen rushed in right behind her.

He swung me over his shoulder and ran for the exit.

“Dad! Mom! Help me!”

Only then did Gina seem to realize she was burning too.

She clawed at the flames licking up her skirt and screamed in panic.

“It hurts. It hurts.”

“I’m burning.”

“Dad, Mom, I’m going to die.”

Her cries faded behind us as my vision blurred.

The last of my strength left me.

I passed out against Stephen’s shoulder.

When I opened my eyes again, Spencer was asleep with his head pillowed on his folded arms beside my bed.

Our fingers were still tightly linked.

The moment I moved, he jerked awake.

Dark circles shadowed his eyes.

“Does anything hurt? Are you dizzy? Can you breathe all right?”

I shook my head and tried to sit up.

He stopped me at once.

“Your calf was burned. You just had surgery. You need to rest. You shouldn’t be walking yet.”

My voice came out rough.

“What about you?”

Spencer tried to give me a reassuring smile.

“I’m fine. Just a few minor burns.”

“The doctors used donor tissue from Kylie as a temporary graft until your own graft could take.”

“It was her choice.”
