My assistant explained what had happened.

Mercer Biomedical had been about to sign a four-million-dollar contract, but the client had suddenly

backed out.

Nexora Therapeutics had presented a proposal that better rnet the client’s needs.

The final contract had not been signed, so the client owed us no termination fee.

But one week earlier, as soon as the client expressed interest in working with us, I had ordered my team to

fast-track the project and invested four hundred thousand dollars upfront.

That wasn’t the full extent of the loss.

It was a biomedical project that Mercer Biomedical’s team had spent five years developing independently.

Our total investment had already exceeded four million dollars.

I refused to believe anyone could produce a better proposal or a better product.

I opened my laptop, ready to contact the client and demand an explanation.

The comment feed gave me the answer first.

“Natalie is finally panicking. No matter how capable she is, Mercer Biomedical’s research has limits. But

Adrian has access to a cutting-edge biomedical technology rewarded by the System.”

“Unfortunately, that technology is a quest reward. He can only unlock it after making three heroines fall in

love with him.”

“Tessa and Avery are already guaranteed to fall for him. He only needs to complete the final step.”

“Damn, what is the male lead planning? He invited all three girls out at once. Is he going to confess to them in front of each other, make them jealous, and complete the unlock requirement in a single move?”

I shut my laptop.

I could abandon the company. I would never risk my daughter.

I was about to call and stop her from leaving when my phone buzzed with a message from Avery.

“Mom, I need to go out for a while.”

“No!”

“Aves, listen to me. You can’t go out today!”

I refused immediately.

She called me at once and began with a promise.

“Mom, don’t worry. Nothing will happen to me Adrian has been harassing me long enough. I’m ending this

today.”

Ending it?

Hadn’t the comment feed said their relationship was improving?

“No way. The heroine is already lying to her mother for the male lead!”

“This is only the beginning. Once the heroine gets pregnant with the male lead’s child, she’ll hate that old

woman Natalie even more.”

“The male lead already brought the other two heroines. Avery is the only one missing!”

“I can’t wait to see how the male lead pushes all three girls’ affection scores to the maximum!”

Avery had never lied to me.

Before I could question her, she hung up.

Whether the comment feed was right or wrong, Adrian was closing in on her. I couldn’t gamble with my

daughter’s safety.

I grabbed my bag and immediately headed toward her location.

The comment feed continued refreshing as I drove.

“Avery’s affection score for Adrian is the lowest. She came to meet him today because she wants revenge?!”

“But Avery is still too naive. She’s only guarding against Adrian, and she doesn’t know Tessa has already

been bought off. If Adrian can’t make Avery fall in love with him today, Tessa will help him force himself on

Avery.”

“Tessa is the one who truly supports Adrian. She’s so selfless.”

“Avery acted too recklessly this time. She may end up being assaulted first,”

My hands tightened around the steering wheel,

I pulled over immediately and forwarded everything from the comment feed to Avery.

She replied quickly, but with only one sentence.

“Mom, trust me. Just wait for the show I’ve prepared.”

She sent nothing else.

Fifteen minutes later, I reached the scene.

A Crowd had already gathered outside.

At the front stood Brenda, Adrian’s mother, the same woman who had given birth on the maternity floor with me 18 years earlier.

The moment I stepped out of the car, Brenda charged toward me.

“Natalie, look at the daughter you raised. How could she be this filthy?”

“My son is about to become someone important. He has no shortage of exceptional women around him. I only left him alone for a moment, and that little slut of yours used some disgusting trick to trap him!”

“You were the one who refused the engagement at the hospital. Now you’re sending your daughter to seduce my son. What are you trying to get from him?”

“It was bad enough that you raised a child alone while making all that dirty money. Now you’ve raised your daughter to be just as filthy!”

“I’m telling you right now, even if she gets pregnant, I will never allow her to marry into the Keller family!”

Brenda stood there with her hands on her hips, screaming abuse.

I pulled out my phone.

The crowd around us grew larger, and every lie she shouted was a public attack on Avery.

I called 911.

The police arrived quickly. After hearing what had happened, they explained that they couldn’t immediately verify an argument from 18 years ago.

No police report or official record had been made at the time.

“Then let’s go inside and see what’s happening in there.”

I shoved past Brenda and led the police toward the private room where Avery and Adrian were waiting.
