The scene before me was worse than anything the comment feed had predicted.

Avery, Tessa, and Paige were huddled together against the wall, staring at Adrian in terror.

Adrian, meanwhile, was trapped in the arms of his own friend.

His clothes had already been torn apart. The moment he saw people enter, he screamed, “Get this animal off

me!”

The officers rushed forward and separated them.

They noticed that Adrian’s friend was behaving abnormally, so they called paramedics and sent him for

toxicology testing.

Everyone at the scene stared in disbelief.

“Oh… oh my God. What happened in here?”

“Two grown men doing something like this in a place like this. Look how badly they frightened those three girls.”

“Wasn’t that woman just claiming some girl seduced her son? Looks like her son prefers men.”

Every word struck Brenda.

She finally snapped out of her shock and rushed toward Adrian. “What… what happened?”

Adrian’s face turned crimson. He was too humiliated to lift his head.

He shouted at Brenda, “Why are there so many people here? Who called the police? Why do you always

interfere? Can’t you just stay out of my life?”

“Stay out of your life?”

Brenda shrieked, “I’m your mother. If I don’t look after you, who will?”

“Adrian, no one else believes you’re the chosen one, but I do. You can’t disappoint me!”

The moment Brenda finished speaking.

The room erupted in laughter.

“He did all that, and he still calls himself the chosen one?”

“Maybe he really is. Not everyone has the nerve to do something like that with an audience.”

Adrian trembled with rage.

The comment feed remained silent for three full minutes before finally displaying a message.

How did things turn out like this?”

“I rewound the scene and watched it second by second. Adrian’s friend drank the mocktail Adrian had

prepared for Avery….

“What?!”

“Didn’t Adrian tell Tessa to watch the drinks and make sure Avery didn’t take the wrong glass? Why did

Tessa help Avery instead?”

“Aunt Natalie, I’m so scared.”

Tessa walked over to me. The moment she spoke, the comment feed understood everything.

When the comment feed first listed the girls Adrian would meet, I began searching for every one of them.

Tessa had grown up in foster care and group homes.

No one protected her, and after she reached adulthood, she was falsely accused of theft.

Adrian once spoke up for her, and she devoted the rest of her life to him.

Paige came from the Appalachian region of West Virginia. When she was 12, her family tried to force her to drop out of school.

I also funded the education of 10 girls, including Tessa and Paige.

I became their sponsor, mentor, and godmother, giving them the ability to choose their own lives.

That day, every year of preparation finally paid off.

“Why did Tessa call Natalie ‘Aunt Natalie’?”

I smiled.

Then I looked toward the empty space and spoke softly.

“Because the first time you said she would become one of Adrian’s accessories, I found her, took her under

my wing, and personally mentored her.”
