Adrian tried to resist, but after watching the footage, the officers handcuffed him on the spot.

As Adrian was led away, the comment feed began refreshing wildly again.

The commenters kept repeating the same threats, claiming I would enrage Adrian, escalate the conflict, and

eventually get my daughter killed.

But from that moment on, I refused to fear an ending that hadn’t happened.

Avery had already proved that the past 18 years of raising her had not been wasted.

When we returned home, she still believed she had caused trouble.

“Mom, I got you into trouble today.”

I gripped her hand and looked directly into her eyes. “You didn’t go looking for trouble. Trouble came looking for you. Aves, you’re the victim.”

“You protected yourself. I’m proud of you, but I also know someone like him will not stop easily.”

“Tell me something. Could you ever fall in love with the man who hurt you today?”

My daughter stared at me as if I had lost my mind.

“Mom, are you kidding? How could I ever like him?”

“Forget how disgusting our first meeting was. Even if a loser like him offered me four million dollars, I still wouldn’t be interested. I wouldn’t give him a second glance.”

Over the years, she had met all kinds of people.

She had long since learned right from wrong.

Every day after that.

I cut my work down to the bare minimum, watched the comment feed, and recorded every interaction

between Avery and Adrian.

Adrian appeared everywhere she went, as if he had access to her shared location.

On the first day, my daughter cursed him out. He didn’t argue and simply walked away.

On the second day, she twisted her ankle. Adrian bought her a pair of slides and personally massaged her

foot…

On the third day, Adrian went to Hawthorne University and completed the lab assignment my daughter had been given at the beginning of her freshman year.

That was the day she spoke to Adrian first.

“You do have some skills.”

Adrian smiled. “Our first meeting was a misunderstandinig. I thought you knew about the engagement. Later, I asked my mother and realized she had gotten the story wrong. I’m sorry.”

My daughter accepted his apology.

In just a few days, their relationship improved so quickly that they almost looked like they were dating.

Danger was closing in.

I was about to ask my daughter to come home that evening so I could question her face-to-face and warn her to stay away from Adrian.

But my assistant called first.
