The Comments Said My Baby Was Worth A Billion-Dollar Empire Chapter 12

Weeks before my due date, they rushed me into the delivery room.
Victor tried to follow me in.

The doctor took one look at the wound on his back and blanched.
“Mr. Vance, you can barely stand.”

Victor gripped the doorframe. “I’m going in.”

Sweat poured down my face, but even through the pain I managed to yell at him. “So you can pass out on the floor and make me deal with that too?”

His eyes were bloodshot. I glared right back.

“Wait outside.”

He leaned down and pressed his forehead to mine.

“Chloe. Listen to me. I only care about you. You come out alive.”

Tears ran down my temples and into my hair.

“If you let anything happen to my baby, I’m coming out of here and killing you myself.”

His throat bobbed. “Okay.”

The delivery room door closed.

The contractions came harder and faster, each one worse than the last. I gripped the sheets until my knuckles went white. Voices blurred together around me.

The comments were chaos.

[She died right here in the original book.]

[The plot is still trying to drag her down.]

[CHLOE HOLD ON!]

I bit down until I tasted blood. I was not going to die here.

Victor still owed me a real proposal. I hadn’t even started spending his money. I hadn’t seen Lily cry. And I hadn’t heard my baby call me Mom.

The doctor’s voice cut through. “Fetal heart rate is dropping!”

The room snapped into crisis mode.

The pain nearly dragged me under. A nurse tapped my cheek.

“Miss Sterling, stay with us!”

I forced my eyes open. Victor’s voice reached me through the doors, raw and torn apart.

“Chloe, if you fall asleep, I’m burning every bag you own.”

Rage hit me harder than adrenaline.

“VICTOR!”

The doctor jumped in. “That’s it. Push!”

A cry split the room, and the crushing pressure inside me finally vanished.

A nurse brought over a wrinkled, screaming little bundle. “It’s a boy.”

I could barely keep my eyes open. “Who does he look like?”

The nurse smiled. “Eyes and brows. All Mr. Vance.”

I almost smiled. “Good. As long as he’s got my attitude.”

I was out before I finished the sentence.

When I opened my eyes, Victor was beside the bed with the baby in his arms. He looked like he’d been crying the whole time.

The second he saw me stir, he handed the baby off to the nurse and leaned over me. “Chloe.”

My voice came out wrecked. “Did I make it?”

He buried his face in my neck. “You made it.”

I lifted a hand to his hair. “Where’s the baby?”

“He’s perfect.”

“Does he look like you?”

“Yes.”

“Is your grandmother losing her mind?”

A low laugh. “She’s cried three times in the hallway.”

I tried to laugh, but the tears got there first.

The door opened. Mom stood there, her eyes so swollen they were nearly shut.

She was holding a bowl of soup, hands trembling. “Chloe, can I come in?”

I closed my eyes. “Nobody takes my son from me.”

Her tears fell hard. “I won’t.”

“And you don’t send me away.”

“I won’t send you away.”

“And you don’t ever say you don’t want him.”

She nodded, tears streaming.

Victor’s hand tightened around mine. I was finally starting to breathe again when footsteps pounded down the hall.

The bodyguard burst in. “Mr. Vance. Someone switched the paternity test samples.”
