The Comments Said My Baby Was Worth A Billion-Dollar Empire Chapter 11

The Comments Said My Baby Was Worth A Billion-Dollar Empire Chapter 11

I opened my eyes and held my breath.

Lily was just outside the door, her voice barely carrying through.

“One shot, and she goes into preterm labor. It’ll look natural.”

The nurse’s voice shook. “That could kill her.”

Lily’s laugh was soft. “If something goes wrong, someone else takes the fall.”

My fingers found the call button. Before I could press it, the door swung open.

The nurse walked in with a tray. She flinched when she saw my eyes open.

“Miss Sterling, it’s time for your injection.”

I stared at the syringe. “Get the doctor.”

Her smile was thin and wrong. “The doctor’s tied up right now.”

I grabbed the bedside lamp and hurled it. Glass burst across the floor, and the nurse stumbled backward.

Bodyguards flooded in. I jabbed a finger at the tray.

“Test that syringe. Now.”

The doctor came. The syringe was sent to the lab. Within minutes, they had the results.

It had been filled with a drug to force contractions.

Mom stood in the doorway, looking like she’d been hollowed out.

“Is this what safe looks like, Mom?”

She pressed both hands to her mouth. The sound she made wasn’t even a cry.

The police took the nurse. They intercepted Lily right outside in the hall.

Lily didn’t even flinch.

“Chloe. You’re harder to kill than I thought.”

I threw the blanket off and swung out of bed. The nurses couldn’t keep me back.

I walked up to her and slapped her hard. “That one’s for my baby.”

I backhanded her. “And that’s for Victor.”

Blood gathered at the corner of Lily’s mouth. Her eyes went flat and cold.

“You really think Victor loves you? He just wants the baby. That’s all you are to him.”

A thin, ragged voice came from the doorway. “I love her.”

Victor stood in the doorway in a hospital gown, gripping the frame so hard his knuckles were white. He was ghost-pale, the wound on his back still fresh.

I ran to him and grabbed his arm. “What are you doing? Who let you out of bed?”

He held my hand and turned to Lily. “I can live without the baby. I can’t live without her.”

Whatever was holding Lily together cracked right in front of me.

Victor wasn’t done. “My lawyers are compiling everything you’ve done. The police will get all of it.”

Lily laughed.

“You can protect her now, Victor. But can you protect her in the delivery room?”

“In the original story, she dies giving birth.”

The comments flooded my vision the instant she stopped talking.

[The childbirth countdown has started.]

[This is the final correction point.]

[Chloe is about to go into preterm labor.]

A crushing pressure dropped low in my body.

Pain ripped through me. I seized Victor’s hand, my whole body shaking.

“Victor, it hurts.”

Every trace of color left his face.

“Doctor!”
