The CEO And His Ambitious Model Chapter 07

The CEO And His Ambitious Model Chapter 07

The next day, the news that the Whitmore and Van der Woodsen families were getting engaged spread like wildfire through New York high society.

The butler told me Theo had gone straight back to the family mansion the night before.

Probably to prepare for the engagement, I thought.

As luck would have it, today was the day my contract with the company expired.

And I couldn’t keep staying in Theo’s penthouse any longer.

It only took me two hours to pack all my things.

As I was about to leave, I stared at the gift box in my hand for a long few seconds.

A black silk scarf.

I’d spotted it at a brand event a while back and fallen in love with it instantly.

It was ridiculously expensive, but I’d gritted my teeth and bought it anyway.

I knew it was nowhere near the quality of the things he usually used.

But I’d planned to give it to him the night before, to thank him for taking a chance on me and mentoring me these past six months.

Now, it seemed I’d never get to give it to him.

So I left it casually on the nightstand.

Right then, my phone buzzed twice.

It was a text from Will.

“Are you all packed? I’m on my way to pick you up right now.”

I texted back, “All set.”

Finding an apartment in New York is notoriously difficult. Will drove me around all day, but we couldn’t find anything suitable.

Finally, he hesitated for a moment, then spoke up.

“Maybe… you could stay at my place for a few days?”

As if afraid I’d misunderstand, he quickly added, his ears turning bright red, “There are two bedrooms. You can take the guest room. And I’m almost always staying on set anyway, I’m barely ever there.”

I just smiled at him.

“Thanks, Will.”

I stayed at Will’s place for two full days before I finally found an apartment.

When Will found out, he took time off from set to come help me move.

To thank him, I splurged and treated him to dinner at a nice restaurant.

After dinner, he drove me home.

Maybe because I’d been so busy and exhausted lately,

one second I was complaining to Will about how tiring moving was, the next I’d drifted off to sleep.

Rain pattered against the car window outside.

Naturally, I didn’t hear Will’s quiet, soft words.

“Then would you give me two years? I’ll give you a home.”

My new apartment, 2 AM.

A harsh, shrill ringtone jolted me awake.

Half-asleep, I pressed the answer button.

The next second, Theo’s dark, gloomy voice ripped me right out of my sleep.

“Mia.”

“Did I say you could move out of the penthouse?”

I shot straight up in bed, wide awake.

Before I could say a word, he continued.

“Send me your new address. I’ll send someone to pick you up tomorrow.”

I ran a hand through my messy, bedhead hair and said quickly, “That’s not appropriate, Theo. Our contract is over. I have no reason to stay with you anymore.”

“Besides, you’re about to be engaged. It wouldn’t look good for me to keep living with you, would it?”

There was a two-second silence on the other end of the line. Then he asked me,

“Do you never read financial news?”

“Right… you probably don’t care about that sort of thing.”

“Never mind. Send me your address right now. I’m coming to get you.”

I quickly pretended to yawn. “But I’m really tired right now.”

“Then sleep. I’ll come pick you up tomorrow.”

Theo hung up directly, leaving no room for refusal.

That phone call chased away every last bit of my drowsiness.

I opened my phone and went straight to the financial news channel.

I bit my lip, and suddenly realized.

It had been a long time since I’d seen those messy, floating danmaku.
