The Body Swap That Made Her a Billionaire—and Me Awake Chapter 07

Only three days remained before their souls fused completely.

Evelyn was fading fast. Her body was shutting down. She was in a deep coma for over twenty hours a day. During her few waking hours, a ventilator and expensive prescription drugs were all that kept her alive.

The whole manor was in chaos. Arthur Hatfield even hired a couple of psychics to come cleanse the house of bad energy. He was convinced that Evelyn-trapped in Lena’s body-was a curse on Kayden and the entire

household.

“Drag that bad luck charm out of my house! Let her die on the street instead of tainting the Hatfield name

and estate!”

The old man’s roar was loud enough to cut through the ICU’s thick glass doors.

“Nobody touches her!”

Kayden’s voice boomed from outside, followed by the thuds of bodyguards hitting the floor. He stood outside

the ICU door like a man possessed, taking down anyone who tried to get close.

But he could hold back people, not fate.

Staring at the weakening blips on her heart monitor, Kayden made a reckless decision. He would go down to

the private cell and confront Lena.

A nurse woke Evelyn. She struggled to open her eyes and look at the surveillance feed on the wall. Kayden

was already standing outside the cell’s iron bars.

Lena looked gaunt and haggard, but her eyes burned with feverish excitement.

“Well, well. Look who finally decided to show up.” Lena leaned against the concrete wall, her voice dripping

with sarcasm. “Did your precious darling get worse? Come to beg me for a favor?”

Kayden stared at her like she was a corpse. “Lift the hex. State your terms.”

Lena froze for a second, then burst into shrill laughter.

“Hah! You’re begging me? The untouchable Kayden Hatfield, on his knees begging for a worthless nobody?”

She threw herself against the bars, fingers wrapped around the cold steel, her face twisted with malice. “Why would I undo it? The warlock said undoing it early kills someone. If I lift it now, I’m the one who dies. Do I look stupid to you?”

“Just three more days, and her soul will vanish for good. This body stays mine forever”

Watching Lena’s face-her own face-twist into such an ugly mask, Evelyn’s chest tightened with pain. Comments flooded in, full of fury.

[This woman is pure poison. She’s getting exactly what she deserves!]

[But she’s not wrong. Whoever breaks the hex dies. No sane person would agree to undo it.]

Down in the cell, Kayden’s expression didn’t change. He tossed out an offer like bait.

“What if I give you ten percent of Hatfield Group?”

Ten percent of the conglomerate was enough to buy several small countries. Lena’s breath hitched, but she

quickly smirked again.

“What good is money if I’m dead? Wealth is worthless without a life to enjoy it.”

Kayden’s eyes sharpened. He leaned forward slightly and spoke a line that froze everything.

“Then what if I marry you?”

The sentence hit like a grenade. It stunned Lena and blew up the comment section.

[Dude’s totally lost his marbles!]

[He’s going to marry her to save Evelyn? This is the most desperate gambit ever!]

[But she’s wearing Evelyn’s face. Who is he even proposing to?]

[It’s just a bait-and-switch ploy. He’s tricking her into undoing the hex first.]

[What if she takes the deal? Evelyn might break down hearing this.]

Back in the ICU, Evelyn bit her lower lip until she tasted blood. Staring at Kayden’s cold, expressionless face on the screen, a sharp pain tore through her chest.

She knew he was only doing this to save her. She knew every word was a lie. But still, tears poured down her

cheeks when she heard him propose to that cruel woman.

You fool, Kayden. I’m not worth all this.

Inside the cell, Lena’s eyes lit up with greed.

“Is this for real?” She locked onto his stare, trying to read his true intentions. “You’ll marry me? Make me the

real mistress of the Hatfield family?”

“The Hatfields honor their agreements.” Kayden’s voice was cold as stone. “But only if you lift the hex

immediately and return Evelyn to her real body. Refuse, and the deal is off.”

Lena’s eyes darted back and forth as she calculated. If she waited, Evelyn would die in three days and she’d

keep this body forever. But Arthur hated her and wanted her dead. She might never leave this cell alive.

If she took the deal, she’d walk free, get billions in stock, and become Mrs. Hatfield.

As for the soul backlash? The warlock only said someone would die-not necessarily the caster. She could tweak the spell to shift the damage onto Evelyn instead.

A nasty smile tugged at Lena’s lips. “Fine. Deal.” She tilted her head and looked at Kayden with greedy eyes.

“Words aren’t enough. I want the official transfer papers from your legal team, plus your signed marriage contract with your grandfather’s seal. I won’t start the ritual without every document.”
