The Blood Mirror Never Lies Chapter 05

Cassian jerked back, his face deathly pale.

“No… no…” He shook his head, trembling. “Please, stop…”

But the Blood Mirror had no mercy. It wouldn’t stop for anyone’s begging.

It had already caught the scent of the third memory and began frantically draining the last drops of blood from my body.

White–hot agony ripped through me. The world began to blur, my consciousness fraying at the edges.

My skin was practically translucent now, my veins branching out like black spiderwebs.

Images began to surface in the mirror.

The mirror showed a battle on the clan borders, two years past.

As the clan’s top assassin, Cassian had infiltrated the Fallen’s lair alone. But it was an ambush.

In the vision, he was covered in blood. A Fallen’s claws had torn open his throat, severing the carotid

artery.

Black venom was creeping into his veins.

It was Fallen necro–venom. Left untreated, the victim would devolve into a mindless Ghoul within three

days.

“Throw him in the dungeon!” Julian’s voice echoed in the memory. “If he fully turns, execute him

immediately!”

The scene shifted to the cold, damp underground water cell.

Cassian was chained to the wall with heavy, pure silver shackles. His eyes were glowing red, his claws

extending uncontrollably.

His sanity was slipping. Beast–like roars echoed in the narrow cell.

“Help me… please, help me…” he begged in agony, but his voice was already turning hoarse and twisted

Tania appeared outside the cell.

She took one look at the devolving Cassian, her hand flying to her mouth in disgust. She fled with a terrified scream, her face pale with terror.

Shortly after she fled, another figure appeared.

It was me–weak, frail, and already stripped of my healing powers.

Dragging my heavy body, I walked step by step toward the heavy iron door

“Evelyn… don’t come in…” Cassian choked out, clinging to his last shred of sanity. “I’m losing control… I’ll

tear you apart…”

But I didn’t stop.

I opened the cell and walked toward the struggling man.

“Don’t be afraid,” I said softly, my voice gentle. “I won’t let you turn into a monster.”

All sanity fled him. Cassian shattered the silver chains and lunged at me, sinking his fangs right into my

shoulder.

Blood sprayed instantly.

But I didn’t dodge. Instead, I held him tight.

“It’s okay,” I whispered through the searing pain, letting him drink his fill. “Bite me. Let the venom out.

I’m not afraid of the pain.”

His claws left deep, bloody trails down my back, but I held onto him, using my body heat to soothe his

raging soul.

When he finally calmed down a fraction, my trembling hands found the hilt of a silver dagger.

“There’s only one way to save you.” I looked into his blood–red eyes. “I have to suppress the venom with

my pure blood. But I only have three drops of Pureblood Essence left in my body.”

I pointed the dagger at my own heart.

“Losing them might kill me. But if it saves you, I’ll take the risk.”

In the present, Cassian let out a howl of pure agony. “No! Evelyn! No!”

But in the memory, I had already plunged the silver blade into my chest.

The burning agony of pure silver against my heart nearly made me pass out, but I forced out the last three drops of my Pureblood Essence.

It was the very core of a vampire’s life. Once lost, it could never regenerate.

With shaking hands, I cupped the glowing drops and fed them into Cassian’s mouth, one by one

The moment the essence entered his body, the black venom was driven out.

His red eyes cleared. His claws slowly retracted.

Meanwhile, my life force drained rapidly. I collapsed to the cold floor, utterly lifeless.

Just as Cassian was about to wake up, Tania appeared at the door again.

She looked at the unconscious Cassian, then at me, lying in a pool of blood

A twisted smile crept onto her face.

She walked into the cell, picked up my blood–soaked cloak, and wrapped it around herself.

Then, with a vicious kick, she shoved my exhausted body into the dark shadows of the corner.

When Cassian opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was Tania, wearing a bloody cloak and pretending

to be weak.

“Cassian… are you okay?” she asked softly, forcing out a few tears. “I risked my life to save you… You

almost tore me apart…”

Cassian saw the blood on her and thought it was the price she paid for his life.

“Tania… you saved me…” He held her hand, his voice choking with emotion. “I swear, I will spend the rest of my life repaying you. I will be your shadow guard and protect you forever.”

And there I was. Huddled in the dark corner, shivering in the freezing wind.

My wounds wouldn’t heal because I had lost my powers. I was bleeding out.

But I didn’t make a sound. I just watched them hold each other and cry.

The memory ended.

In the real world, Cassian shattered.

“What… what have I done…” He collapsed to his knees, his hands clawing at his hair in torment. “Evelyn… it was you… you traded your life for mine…”

He remembered everything he did after waking up.

He swore loyalty to Tania, calling her his savior, while turning a blind eye to me, curled up in the corner

Worse still, over the next two years, whenever I fell sick from losing my Essence, he would mock me, calling me a cold–blooded manipulator faking illness for attention.

“I pushed… I pushed the person who saved my life to her death…” His voice shattered. “I deserve to die I

deserve to die…”

Tania cowered behind a stone pillar, trembling violently. Her web of lies had been torn apart.

As for me, I was so weak I could barely see.

My blood was running dry, my vision blurring, but I stared at Cassian’s breakdown with the cold detachment of a ghost.

This was what I wanted.

I wanted them to see the truth. I wanted them to pay for what they did

Just then, the Blood Mirror shook violently. Its red light grew blinding.

Everyone thought the memories were over, but the mirror began pulling out a memory that shouldn’t

exist.
