The Alpha Ruined My Sister’s Life Last Life Chapter 05

The Alpha Ruined My Sister’s Life Last Life Chapter 05

Halfway down, I sank my claws into the rock face.

A chunk of stone broke loose. Pain ripped through my arm so hard I almost lost my grip, but I stopped falling.

Save me? Choose me?

I didn’t need anyone to save me.

And I’d rather die than watch him save her.

I locked my grip and started climbing.

My wolf roared inside me as the rocks shredded my palms. Blood ran down my hands, but I didn’t care.

I could hear voices above me.

The search team had arrived, and Seraphine’s crying carried in and out with the wind.

I hauled myself up inch by inch until I got one elbow over the ledge, then a knee.

Finally, I dragged myself back onto solid ground.

Seraphine was still there.

She was huddled near the edge, one hand gripping a tree root, her dress torn and her face streaked with

tears.

I grabbed her by the collar, yanked her away from the drop, and threw her onto flat ground.

She hit the dirt with a strangled cry.

I stood over her, chest heaving, blood dripping down my arms.

Footsteps pounded through the trees.

Draven burst into the clearing at a run.

He looked at me first, then at Seraphine, and reached for my arm.

I slapped his hand away.

“Don’t touch me. If you take one step toward her right now, I’m driving home tonight.”

He froze.

He looked at me for a moment, then took off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders without a word.

Pine.

His scent clung to the fabric.

I hated that I noticed.

I didn’t thank him.

Seraphine pushed herself upright, eyes wide and already filling with tears.

“I almost died!”

She clutched her torn dress, loud enough for everyone in the clearing to hear.

“She dragged me down with her! Draven, your mate tried to kill me, and you’re just standing there?”

More wolves rushed in behind him.

Before she even finished, the whispers started.

“She’s been here three days and she’s already pushing people off cliffs?”

“Eastern outsiders have no manners.”

More voices joined in.

I stood there soaked through, my hands covered in blood, watching everyone turn toward me.

After a while, the words blurred together.

Outsider. Troublemaker. Trash.

Draven grabbed my wrist.

For a second, I thought he was going to hold me back and tell me to let them talk.

Fine.

I’d throw the first punch anyway and deal with the contract later.

“Raven wouldn’t do that.”

His voice wasn’t loud, but it carried through the clearing.

“I believe her.”

He wasn’t looking at Seraphine.

He was looking at me.

No distance. No doubt.

My breath caught.

Shit.

Why the hell was my heart pounding now?

Draven turned to Seraphine.

“You won the pack sprint last year, didn’t you? Your wolf is one of the fastest we have. If you really fell, you could’ve shifted and clawed your way back up.”

He held her gaze.

“So why did you scream for help?”

Nobody said anything.

Seraphine opened her mouth, but nothing came out.

“Get Circe,” Draven said. “Have her bring the Soulstone Fragment. Truth Echo will show us what happened on

that cliff.”

One of the pack elders stepped forward.

“The Soulstone Fragment? Alpha, you’re going to use the pack’s treasure for something like this?”

“This isn’t something small.”

Draven’s voice hardened.

“This is my Luna’s reputation.”

He looked at the elder.

“She drove all the way here from the east. Her becoming my Luna is the luckiest thing that’s happened to this place.”

His grip tightened around my wrist.

“No one gets to drag her name through the dirt. Get Circe. Now.”

The elder opened his mouth, then shut it and walked away.

Seraphine scrambled to her feet, clutching her arm.

Mud and tears streaked her face.

“You’re using the Soulstone Fragment on someone who doesn’t even belong here?”

Her voice cracked.

“What kind of Luna is she? You picked up some stray off the street.”

I pulled my wrist free from Draven’s hand, walked straight up to her, and slapped her across the face.

Her head snapped to the side.

Her hand flew to her cheek, and for one second, the tears disappeared.

Shock and hatred flashed across her face.

“You hit me?!”

She lunged at me.

I caught her wrist and shoved her back.

“Touch me again, and next time it won’t be a slap.”
