A woman stood by the gate, pinching her nose and leaning into the man beside her like I carried the plague.

I looked at him.

Tall. Broad-shouldered. Handsome, but cold as hell.

Draven Icefang.

The Alpha who’d wasted forty years of my sister’s life.

I hopped off the hood, grabbed my duffel, and walked straight past the Omega like she wasn’t there.

“Icefang.”

I stopped in front of him and held out the contract.

“Raven Blackthorn. From the east. Read it, sign it, then tell me where the bathroom is. I’ve been driving for three days, and I smell like a tire shop.”

He took the contract without a word.

His eyes moved from the papers to my face.

Still nothing.

Behind me, the Omega spoke in a shaky voice.

“Draven… is she always this rude?”

I didn’t turn around.

“Sweetheart, I haven’t even started.”

I slung my bag over my shoulder and headed for the gate.

He could follow or not. If he didn’t, I’d find the bathroom myself.

A few seconds later, I heard footsteps behind me.

I glanced back.

Draven was carrying my other bag, his face unreadable.

Fine.

So this was what Lark had dealt with for forty years.

Seraphine played the victim, and Draven barely spoke. My sister had been too proud to make a scene, so she swallowed everything.

I wasn’t Lark.

If someone pissed me off, I dealt with it right then.

And if words didn’t work, I had fists.

The contract had already been filed before I arrived. Draven’s father had arranged everything in advance.

Two days later, we held the engagement ceremony.

His parents had been gone for years. My family was still furious with me, so nobody from my side came.

Everyone there was an Icefang wolf I’d never met, but they’d still hung lights and roasted an entire deer.

It looked decent enough.

“I really envy Raven.”

A soft, trembling voice came from the crowd.

“All it took was a family contract, and now she’s Draven’s Luna. She’s so lucky.”

She paused.

“Not like me…”

The laughter stopped.

Everyone turned toward Seraphine, then looked at me.

She stood there with her face buried in her hands, shoulders trembling like her heart had just been broken.

I knew this act.

In our last life, she’d done the same thing to Lark.

She cried, everyone pitied her, and somehow my sister became the woman who had stolen Draven from her.

Not this time.

Before I could think twice, I walked straight over, grabbed Draven by the collar, and kissed him hard.

Then I pulled back and sank my teeth into the side of his neck.

The whole place went dead silent.

Every wolf in the room stared at me.

An outsider had just marked the strongest Alpha in the north without asking.

I let go, licked the blood from my lip, and turned to Seraphine.

She’d frozen in place, tears still on her face and her mouth slightly open.

“Marks aren’t something you wait around for someone to give you.”

I tapped the fresh bite on Draven’s neck.

“If you want one, you take it.”

I leaned against Draven, rested a hand on his chest, and smiled at her.

“I just did.”

Her expression stiffened.

“Cry all you want, babe. But crying over someone else’s man at their engagement party?”

I glanced at her wet cheeks.

“At least bring a tissue.”

Whispers broke out around us.

I didn’t care.

They’d all seen me bite him. That was enough.

Draven’s face still gave nothing away, but his ears had turned red.

Seraphine wiped her eyes, took a breath, and looked at him.

“I’m truly happy for you.”

She clasped her hands together.

“It’s just… tomorrow is my parents’ anniversary. And my birthday.”

Her voice softened.

“It’s the day we go together every year.”

She swallowed.

“I already got everything ready. But if… if your mate doesn’t want you to go, you don’t have to.”

She lowered her eyes.

“I can go alone.”

Every eye in the room landed on me again.

Draven’s jaw tightened.

“I’ll be there.”

The hand I had on his waist slowly curled into a fist.

I stepped back, turned on my heel, and threw him.
