He remembered Yara’s blood in the dungeon and her cries.

He remembered grabbing Mabel’s hair and kicking her.

He remembered splashing scalding tea on me and throwing me into a dungeon with an

aura-suppressing wolfbane seal for three days.

While the real criminal was pampered.

Marcus, as a father, was too ashamed to raise his head.

I didn’t wait for them to repent; I headed for the exit.

“Raven!”

Marcus chased after me, his voice trembling.

“Raven, wait. I was wrong… it was a misunderstanding.”

I stopped and turned to the man who had once promised I’d never suffer again.

“A ‘misunderstanding’?” I laughed.

“Before the Enforcers showed you proof, you wanted me in prison for life. Now that you know the

truth, a ‘misunderstanding’ is enough?”

Damon ran up too.

“Raven, I’m sorry. She played me. She always seemed so fragile…”

I smiled: “Don’t call me Raven. I prefer ‘Viper,’ as you all called me.”

Marcus’s eyes were red: “Raven… Dad was wrong… Please, let’s go home.”

I looked at him.

This strong Alpha, a warrior who never backed down, had no dignity left.

“Home?” I said. “You signed a contract to sever our ties. You forced me to bleed onto it. You called

me a monster in front of the whole pack.”

“Now you say ‘come home’?”

Marcus and Damon lowered their heads.

“You know what hurts the most?”

No one answered.

“It’s that you never once asked me.”

“Not once.”

“Did you put the peanuts in? Did you use the blade? Did you break her legs?”

“Not even once.”

“You didn’t want the truth. You just wanted a villain. And I was the perfect target-the daughter

who couldn’t speak or fight back.”

I found Mabel.

She was old and had been whipped 30 times.

When I found her, she was dying.

I said: “Mabel will be healed instantly.”

I found a small, derelict cabin on the edge of the Moonlight Market.

It was almost collapsing, so I used the Truth-Speaking Curse to fix it and moved in with Mabel.

A month later, someone knocked on my door.

It was the Enforcer I’d seen before.

“Miss Raven, the Alpha King wishes to see you.”

The Alpha King is the ruler of the United Packs.

I was taken to the Alpha King’s palace.

He sat on his throne and smiled: “So, you’re the she-wolf with the Truth-Speaking Curse?”

“I am.”

He watched me for a long time.

“Your power isn’t a curse; it’s a gift from the Moon Goddess. People only fear it because it hasn’t been seen in ages.”

“Raven, I need a second-in-command. Will you be my Beta?”

“Why me?”

“Because you have the power to kill with a word, yet you chose silence. That restraint is worth more than any strength. I believe you are a good wolf who will make the United Packs better.”

I thought about it. Then I nodded.
