Silenced Omega Chapter 40

Silenced Omega Chapter 40

After the door closed, only Camden and Preston remained in the room.

They stood there for a long time, not moving.

The silence was as heavy as a tomb.

Camden suddenly bent over, bracing his hands on his knees as he gasped for breath.

His Alpha pheromones raged inside him like a caged beast, tearing him apart from the inside.

It was the agony of a fated Omega being marked, then ripped away.

Preston stood motionless by the window.

His Beta pheromones wouldn’t spiral out of control like an Alpha’s, but his body was trembling.

Not from the cold.

It was because he could no longer feel anything.

After Laney’s pheromones had been destroyed, he had lost the only thing that had ever made him feel alive.

Three years later.

Laney stood at the entrance of a flower shop, arranging a new delivery of hydrangeas.

Her pheromones were still faint.

But they hadn’t disappeared completely.

She and Archer had settled in a small seaside town in the south and opened this modest flower shop.

Archer came out from the back room, holding a tray of freshly baked cookies.

“Try one. New recipe.”

Laney took one and bit into it, then gave him a nod of approval.

Archer smiled and turned to arrange the rest of the flowers.

In the afternoon, Laney lay in a comfortable chair in the shop, reading.

Archer was on the other side of the room, trimming flower stems.

The old television was on, broadcasting the midday news.

“Preston Doyle, former president of the Doyle Group, was involved in a serious car accident last night. He remains in the ICU, his condition unstable…”

Laney’s hand paused on the page.

“In other news, Camden Blackwood, former president of the Blackwood Group, has remained in a coma since suffering a sudden cerebral hemorrhage three years ago.”

“Recent reports indicate that his vital signs have worsened…”

Laney lifted her eyes and looked at the television.

The screen flashed through old business photos of Preston, then Camden’s once-familiar face.

She felt nothing.

No hatred, and no other emotion.
