Two bodyguards pinned her to the floor.

Another pulled a knife from his jacket.

The moment the tip of the blade touched her gland, Genevieve’s body went rigid.

“No… please… I’m Genevieve. You can’t do this to me—”

Preston stood and turned his back.

“Do it.”

The first cut went from the corner of her left eye to her jaw.

Genevieve’s scream tore through the room.

The second cut landed on the right side of her face.

Then another.

And another.

She struggled madly, her screams growing hoarse.

After what felt like an eternity, the bodyguards finally let go.

Genevieve lay in a heap on the floor, her face and neck a bloody, unrecognizable mess.

Preston turned and glanced at her.

There was no pity in his eyes.

“Send her to the Abyss,” he said. “The lowest level.”

“Tell the buyer they can do whatever they want with her, as long as she doesn’t die too quickly.”

“She has a debt to pay to Laney. She can pay it back slowly.”

“Yes, sir.”

The bodyguards dragged Genevieve out like a sack of trash.

After the door closed, the room fell silent.

Preston and Camden stood motionless, neither of them speaking.

After a long while, Camden finally broke the silence.

“Laney… is she still alive?”

Preston clenched his fists.

“I will find her.”

“No matter the cost.”

But they both knew.

Some wounds, once inflicted, can never be healed.

Some mistakes, once made, can never be undone.

At that moment, in a small, distant fishing village.

Laney woke from a deep sleep and saw Archer sitting by her bed.

Their eyes met.

Archer handed her a glass of water.

“Drink something.”

Laney took it and sipped.

Archer tucked the blanket around her.

“Rest for a few more days. Then we’ll leave this place.”

Just then, the sound of cars approached in the distance.

Archer’s expression hardened. He immediately went to the window.

He could smell danger.
