Laney scrambled back, her body pressed against the door as she watched them close in.

“Camden, what are you waiting for?” Preston leaned against the sofa, watching them. “After sleeping with her for a year, did you actually catch feelings? Can’t bring yourself to do it?”

Camden’s expression darkened instantly.

“Preston, watch your mouth.”

“Am I wrong?” Preston straightened up. “You always say you’ll be ruthless, but then what? You always hold back.”

“We should have had enough antibodies ages ago, but you kept reducing the extraction amount.”

“What, did holding her at night make you start to think she was actually Genevieve?”

“Shut up.” Camden grabbed Preston by the collar.

Preston didn’t flinch. He just laughed.

“Did I hit a nerve?”

He pried Camden’s hand away.

“Camden, don’t forget who’s lying in Silver Moon Medical Center. It’s Genevieve.”

“She’s waited for you for five years. Laney is just a fake. A fake who hurt Genevieve.”

Camden slowly released him and turned to Laney.

She saw the hesitation flicker in his eyes.

She had to say it.

“Camden, I’m pregnant.”

The living room fell so quiet she could hear the wood crackling in the fireplace.

Laney pressed a hand to her lower abdomen, her voice still shaking.

“I came to the study tonight to tell you… Please, for the baby’s sake…”

“Pregnant?” Preston was the first to laugh, the sound sharp and piercing.

“Perfect timing. That character you put on for her at night was certainly effective, Camden.”

Camden’s entire face was a rigid mask.

He stared at Laney’s stomach, his throat working.

Just then, the butler pushed the door open, his face alight with excitement.

“Sir, the hospital just called. Miss Genevieve is awake.”

“What?” Camden and Preston turned in unison.

“But she’s very weak. She fainted again almost immediately,” the butler added quickly. “The doctor said she needs a large dose of neutralizing pheromones right now, or she might not make it.”

“Get the car ready,” Camden said without a moment’s hesitation.

“What about her?” Preston asked, jerking his chin toward Laney.

Camden glanced at Laney as if she were an object.

“Bring her. We need her pheromones now.”

“No.” Laney backed away. “I’m pregnant. You can’t take that many pheromones.”

“Camden, it’s your child.”

“Hold her,” Camden ordered the bodyguards outside.

Two towering bodyguards rushed in, grabbing Laney by the arms.

The oppressive weight of their pheromones made her want to gag.

She struggled frantically.

“Camden, you’ll regret this. This is your child.”

“She’s too loud.” Camden frowned. “Give her a sedative.”

Preston smiled.

“Why bother?”

He walked over slowly.

Laney watched in horror as he lifted his hard-soled leather shoe.

The next second.

*Crack.*

Agony exploded.
