“No!” Hazel shrieked. 

Her trembling finger pointed at my body on the bed. 

“She’s faking it! She has to be! I never pulled out her oxygen 

tube!” 

She lunged toward me frantically, shaking my shoulders. 

“Clara! Wake up! It wasn’t me! This wasn’t my fault! You can’t 

frame me like this!” 

Killian completely lost control. 

His eyes turned bloodshot, veins bulging at his temples as he grabbed Hazel by the throat. 

“How dare you,” he growled through clenched teeth. 

Hazel clawed at his arm desperately, struggling for air, but she 

couldn’t move him even an inch. 

Her face turned from pale to purple. 

Only when she was seconds away from passing out did the 

doctors and nurses finally react, rushing forward to pull them 

apart. 

Hazel collapsed onto the floor weakly, gasping violently while 

staring at Killian in disbelief. 

She had been so close. 

So close to getting everything. 

She was supposed to live a better life than me. 

But now, Killian had withdrawn every ounce of affection he 

once showed her. The way he looked at her was colder than the way he’d look at a stranger. 

She couldn’t accept it. 

She refused to accept it. 

“Why?!” she cried at him through sobs. “I’m your fiancée! You loved me so much, so why…?!” 

Killian looked at her with icy contempt, as if she were nothing 

more than garbage. 

“You think you deserve that title?” he said coldly. “Did you 

really think I loved you? Rats are drawn to the sunlight. They 

don’t fall in love with other rats.” 

Hazel instantly went limp. 

His words were vague, but she understood them perfectly. 

She had still lost. 

She would never beat me. 

Killian had clearly had enough of her performance. 

“You know who I ran into earlier?” he asked darkly. 

Hazel stared at him blankly. 

He let out a cold laugh. 

“I met the wife of the man who attacked Clara. She cried while explaining everything to me. Someone paid her husband to target Clara specifically. And that person made one thing very clear.” 

His voice became dangerously quiet. 

“They wanted Clara beaten until she miscarried… and then 

tortured to death.” 

His rage exploded again. 

“You told me you only wanted someone to scare her a little! 

You said things got out of control halfway through!” 

Hazel’s body shook uncontrollably. 

She couldn’t say a single word. 

Seeing her reaction, Killian understood immediately. 

His eyes burned red with fury, hatred practically radiating off 

him. 

“Hazel!” he roared. “You lied to me? You actually lied to me?! 

You’d better be ready for what comes next. Because if you’re 

not, I’ll show you what real hell looks like.” 

Hazel crawled desperately toward him and grabbed onto his 

pant leg. 

“Killian, please! You can’t do this to me! I’m the mother of your child! He needs me!” she cried hysterically. “I lied before! 

I never got sterilized! I can still have children! I’m still useful 

to you!” 

The moment she said that, Killian suddenly remembered the way I once clung to his leg, begging him with tears in my eyes. 

Pain stabbed through his chest again. 

He bent down and gripped Hazel’s jaw brutally tight. 

“So that was a lie too?” he said softly. 

Then he laughed bitterly. 

“Good. Very good, Hazel. I’m going to make you regret not jumping off that building when you had the chance.” 

Hazel broke into terrified sobs. 

As for everything that happened afterward, I knew none of it. 

The moment I completely died, a violent force dragged me 

into darkness. 

The world spun around me. 

After what felt like forever, I coughed weakly. 

Then frantic voices exploded around me. 

“Doctor! Doctor, hurry!” 

“My daughter woke up! Clara! Clara, sweetheart, it’s Mom! Can you hear me?!” 

Hot tears splashed onto the back of my hand. 

I panicked, trying desperately to open my eyes, but my body 

wouldn’t move. 

My mother’s warm hand gripped mine tightly. 

And somehow, warmth slowly spread through my frozen heart 

too. 

After a long struggle, I finally forced my eyes open. 

The first thing I saw was my mother crying uncontrollably. 

Her hair had turned almost completely gray. 

The woman who once cared so much about looking elegant no 

longer even bothered dyeing it. She had lost so much weight she barely looked like herself anymore. 

My nose burned. 

Tears poured down my face instantly. 

Seeing the overwhelming relief and joy on my parents‘ faces, I suddenly realized how lucky I was to still be here. 

Several doctors rushed in and performed a full examination. 

“It’s a miracle,” one of them kept repeating in disbelief. “An 

actual miracle.” 

After giving my parents a long list of precautions, they finally 

left the room. 

My mind still felt sluggish. 

After a long pause, I managed to whisper weakly, 

“Mom… Dad… I’m back.” 

My mother wiped away her tears. 

“Oh, sweetheart… what have you been through?” she sobbed. 

“This is all your father’s fault. He kept pressuring you to come 

home for that blind date, and then the accident happened. The 

doctors said the best–case scenario was that you’d stay in a 

vegetative state. We received critical condition notices over 

and over again…” 

Dad’s eyes turned red too, but he quickly interrupted her. 

“Our daughter’s awake now. Stop saying things like that.” His voice shook with emotion. “My little girl’s going to be just fine.” 

I tried moving my arm and instantly winced from the pain shooting through my entire body. 

Mom hurried to stop me. 

“What are you doing? Your injuries haven’t healed yet! You 

need complete rest.” 

I swallowed painfully before forcing out the words through my 

raw throat. 

“How long… was I unconscious?“
