I hovered near the ceiling, staring down at Killian’s pathetic 

act, and disgust churned through me. 

The moment he mentioned the baby, the pain hit me all over 

again. Even as a soul, it still felt like knives driving into my 

chest. 

I wanted to pull my hand away from his grasp, but I couldn’t. 

All I could do was float there helplessly and watch him pretend 

to care. 

The more I watched him, the less I understood him. 

I was dying. Once I was gone, no one would stand between him 

and Hazel anymore. Shouldn’t they finally get the happy ending they wanted? 

But things clearly weren’t going the way Hazel expected. 

There was distance between them now. 

Killian sat beside my hospital bed the entire time, taking care 

of me personally. Hours passed, and he never spared Hazel a 

single glance. 

Not long after, Hazel’s lashes fluttered weakly as she opened 

her eyes. 

“Killian…” she whispered hoarsely. “Water…” 

He didn’t move. 

Even when she forced herself to speak louder, he still didn’t 

turn around. 

At that point, she understood everything. 

Tears slid from the corners of her eyes as her voice trembled. 

“Killian… are you blaming me?” 

His fists tightened before slowly loosening again. 

“I’m not blaming you. I’m blaming myself. I never thought Clara would go this far. If I’d known earlier…” 

His voice broke near the end. 

Hazel closed her eyes, hiding the hatred in them before 

speaking softly again. 

“She’ll forgive us.” 

“No, Hazel.” Killian finally looked at her. “We can’t be together anymore. I promised Clara that if she woke up, I’d stay by her side for the rest of my life. I’ll give you money and 

send you and the child overseas.” 

There was guilt in his eyes. 

Regret. 

Even resentment. 

But not a trace of love. 

Hazel stared at him blankly, her heart sinking. 

It was over. 

Completely over. 

She said nothing else. Pretending she felt sick, she closed her 

eyes and drifted into fake sleep. 

Night fell. 

When she slowly opened her eyes again, Killian was no longer 

beside my bed. 

Her heartbeat thundered in her ears. 

Hatred twisted inside her so violently her teeth clenched. 

This wasn’t how things were supposed to turn out. 

As long as I died, everything could go back to normal. 

She would become Mrs. Blackwood, envied by everyone 

around her. Her son would grow up spoiled and adored, just 

like she had always dreamed. 

As if possessed, she forced herself out of bed. 

Dizziness hit her instantly, and she nearly collapsed onto the 

floor. She grabbed the edge of the bed for support and slowly 

staggered toward me, one shaky step at a time. 

I watched her quietly from above. 

By now, my heart was calm. 

The Arcane Pact had already told me the truth. 

I was about to die for real. 

Hazel’s trembling hand reached toward my oxygen tube. Sweat dripped down her forehead as she muttered through gritted teeth, 

“If you want someone to blame, blame yourself for always 

shining too brightly. None of this is my fault. You brought this 

on yourself.” 

It sounded like she was speaking to me. 

Or maybe trying to convince herself. 

“What the hell are you doing?!” 

A furious roar exploded through the room. 

Hazel spun around in terror and froze. 

Killian stood there, rage burning across his face. 

He rushed to my bedside in two quick strides and shoved Hazel away violently. 

She lost her balance and crashed onto the floor. Her stitches 

tore open instantly, blood spreading beneath her hospital 

gown. 

Killian didn’t even look at her. 

His narrowed eyes looked like a predator locking onto prey, as though he might tear her apart at any second. 

“Get rid of those sick thoughts in your head,” he snarled. “If anything happens to Clara, I’ll make you pay for every bit of 

it,” 

“Killian!” Hazel screamed hysterically. “How can you treat me like this?!” 

She sounded helpless. Fragile. Like a child about to break 

apart. 

Killian was about to speak again when suddenly, a sharp 

mechanical sound pierced the room. 

Beep… 

Beep… 

Then one long, continuous tone. 

Killian whipped around. 

The heartbeat monitor beside my bed had flattened into a straight line.
