When she heard the words “insurance policy,” Madison, who was also facing a felony murder charge, completely broke down. She screamed and pointed at Drake.
“Officer, that bastard made me do it.”
“He talked Selena into signing the policy. He said if she died, the money would belong to both of us. Switching the medicine was his idea too.”
Drake’s eyes widened in disbelief. Then he lunged at Madison like a kicked dog and slapped her hard across the face.

Blood ran from the corner of Madison’s mouth, and she clawed at Drake’s face like a woman possessed.
“Jealous? Stop pretending you’re innocent. Who was the one grabbing me in my apartment last week?”
Their loving act dissolved into filthy insults as the two of them fought in front of the police. The scene was pathetic and ugly.
“Separate them. Cuff them,” the detective said with an impatient wave. “They can tell it to the judge.”
After the police took them away, my grandfather’s lead attorney walked in holding a clear evidence bag.
Inside were the crushed remains of my watch.
“Selena, the watch was destroyed, but the internal storage chip synced to the cloud server the moment you pressed the alarm. Every word spoken in that room was recorded clearly.”
The attorney tapped play on his tablet.
Madison’s vicious mockery, Drake’s cold indifference, and the sentence about the insurance scam echoed through the hospital room. Better yet, the bar’s hallway security cameras had clearly captured them plotting to switch the medication.
The chain of evidence was airtight.
Six months later, Manhattan Criminal Court handed down its verdict.
Drake was sentenced to more than twenty years in prison for attempted second-degree murder and insurance fraud.
Madison, as his accomplice, was sentenced to fifteen years.
The friends who had jeered in the VIP room were also charged with reckless endangerment, assault, evidence tampering, and conspiracy.
