She Rejected the Mafia Heir, He Went Crazy Chapter 08

But it’s my job. I went anyway. Today, though, Leonardo wasn’t there.

My colleague Mia leaned over with a smile. “Emily, Mr. Vitale has gone to a lot of trouble to win you over. But you don’t seem interested?”

I had no interest in explaining my relationship with Leonardo to anyone. “Mm. I’m not.”

Mia’s smile grew wider. “Then let me set you up with someone.”

I blinked. She pointed. “Evan White. He’s had a crush on you forever but never had the courage to confess. Lately, watching how aggressively Mr. Vitale has been pursuing you, he’s been so worked up he’s lost his voice-”

Before she could finish, someone covered her mouth. Evan looked at me in a panic and said urgently, “Emily, don’t listen to her! I’m not-not at all—”

Mia broke free from his hand and said teasingly, “Look at you-can’t even bring yourself to say you don’t like her. You’re head over heels!”

His secret exposed, Evan ‘shot me a quick look. Then he took a deep breath, as if he’d made up his mind. “Emily, I-”

Before he could finish, an icy voice cut in from behind. “What’s going on here?”

Everyone turned. Leonardo stood at the door. He was expressionless, but the two coffee cups in his hands were crushed and spilling.

Mia smiled and was about to smooth things over, but he cut her off. “Employees slacking off and gossiping during work hours. Your company has serious management problems.”

Mia’s face went tight, but she didn’t argue, mindful of his status. She just took Evan and turned to

leave.

Leonardo adjusted his expression and walked toward me. He spoke. “I saw your watch was broken. I got you a new one. See if you like it?”

As he spoke, he opened the box. I don’t know much about watches, but the all-diamond face alone told me it was expensive.

I said flatly, “It’s too expensive. I don’t deserve it.”

His face stiffened. “You do! Emily, you deserve the very best in the world. I was wrong before. Giye me a chance to make it up to you, okay?”

I shook my head. I glanced at the smoothly running program, stood up, and went out to get coffee. Passing Leonardo, my steps paused briefly. “Mr. Vitale, if you want to play some romantic pursuit game, find someone else. Don’t disrupt our work. We don’t have endless money like you. Every second you abuse your privilege and act on your whims is a waste of other people’s time”

I walked out. He stood there alone, his expression shifting through a dozen emotions.

After that, Leonardo stopped causing trouble. The company’s problems vanished overnight. I went back to my regular schedule.

With so much free time, I started thinking about a side business. In the past couple of years, items with ancient elements-Chinese, Egyptian, Roman-had become incredibly popular in the US and Europe. I planned to start from there. Open a small shop.

But it wasn’t easy. It involved imports and exports, store location, product sourcing-the list went on. Luckily, I had plenty of time. I could take it slow.

So the next morning, I decided to first scout the local market. As soon as I stepped out, Leonardo’s car was waiting outside. He said, “Where are you going? I’ll drive you.”

I glanced down at my Uber, which showed heavy traffic. I opened the car door and got in.

We reached the destination quickly. I got out. Leonardo followed. He was about to speak when his phone buzzed. He looked down and his face instantly changed. He grabbed my wrist. “Emily, what do you mean by this?”

He held up his phone. There it was-the transfer I’d just sent him.

I said calmly, “The fare.”
