Seven Years As His Wife… Until My Own Son Called Me A Homewrecker Chapter 11

A diary lay on top.

Mia’s name was written on the first page in the uneven handwriting of a fifteen-year-old. Beneath it were

small objects Adrian vaguely recognized but could not place.

For the first time, he opened a door into the life she had never shown him.

[The moment I saw Adrian Blackwood, I knew I was in trouble. He wore a white shirt and gave the welcome

speech for the incoming class. His expression hardly changed, but my entire world did.]

[I tried to introduce myself, but we came from different worlds. He could look right at me and forget me the

next day. The only thing I could do was offer him water after basketball practice, but so did half the girls at school. He only ever took Vanessa’s.]

[Everyone said I stood up at that abandoned wedding because I wanted Blackwood money and status. I

never corrected them. Letting people think I was greedy was easier than admitting I loved Adrian enough to throw away my pride.]

[I was finally accepting that he would never love me when he asked me to have a child with him. Does that

mean some part of him has started to care?]

Adrian kept reading. His fingers tightened until the pages wrinkled.

He finally recognized the other things in the box. They were gifts Mia had once tried to give him, all of which

he had returned.

He had believed their marriage was a transaction. She wanted money, and he wanted to salvage his pride.

Now he understood that she had loved him long before that wedding.

Mia had never spoken of those years. Whenever he came home, she was simply there, calm and constant, as

if no matter when he chose to turn around, she would always be waiting.

But not this time.

He looked around the nearly empty room and understood that she was gone. She had even abandoned the

box that once held her most precious memories.

Nothing in this house mattered to her anymore.

Neither did he.

Panic crashed over him. At last, he understood how deeply her presence had become woven into his life.

He called his assistant. “Find Mia. I don’t care what it takes.”

As he left the room, he heard voices from the living room below. Vanessa and Noah sat on the couch eating

fried chicken.

“Don’t worry, Mommy Vanessa,” Noah said proudly. “I’m always on your side. The homewrecker only ever

bossed me around. You let me eat whatever I want.”

Grease shone around his mouth as his expression turned calculating. “If she comes back, I’ll pretend she

pushed me into the pool. Dad cares about me, so he’ll punish her.”

Vanessa smiled. “That’s my smart boy. We’ll work together. I’ll keep pretending to be unstable, and Mia will

never get another chance to come back to Adrian.”

Adrian stood frozen in the upstairs hall.

Homewrecker. Work together. Pretending.

The words were simple. Their meaning was not.

Cold fury stripped away the last of his reason.

“What did you just say?” His voice carried through the room. “What do you mean you’ve been pretending?”

Vanessa and Noah looked up.

Adrian descended the stairs one slow step at a time. “You were never ill, were you?”
