Seven Years As His Wife… Until My Own Son Called Me A Homewrecker Chapter 10

The house was silent when Adrian heard the words, and he actually laughed.

“That isn’t funny.”

Across the room, Noah was building a Lego tower, oblivious to the conversation.

“Noah is Mia’s entire life,” Adrian said. “She would never give him up. Did she contact you? What did she offer

you to tell me this?”

The assistant went quiet. “I’m not joking.”

As Adrian opened the full settlement package his assistant had sent, realization hit. The signature at the bottom was his own. He remembered signing it a month earlier, when Mia stood outside the estate and said

she would leave if he signed.

Convinced she was only bluffing, he had signed them without reading. It had never occurred to him that she

would actually file them and go through with the divorce..

But… She had done exactly that, and panic finally set in.

Adrian returned to the first page and read every line, this time with the care he should have taken before

signing.

He had expected Mia to demand a fortune. Instead, she claimed only her separate property, everything that had belonged to her before the marriage.

He had expected her to drag out the divorce and fight him for Noah. Instead, the settlement gave Adrian sole legal and physical custody, and Mia had requested no parenting time

Money and Noah were the leverage Adrian had always counted on. Mia had willingly walked away from both, leaving him with nothing to hold over her.

For the first time, he panicked.

Noah yawned. “Dad, you said the homewrecker would come find me. Why isn’t she here? I’m bored, and I

want her chicken pot pie for dinner.”

Adrian’s own stomach tightened with hunger. He found himself craving the corn chowder Mia often made, but he refused to say so.

“What did I just tell you about how you speak about your mother?”

Noah shrank under his stare. “A-about what?”

Adrian said nothing. One look was enough.

Noah caught on and muttered, “What’s gotten into you lately, Daddy? You never cared when I called her that

before.”

The words stopped Adrian cold. Noah was right. Not once had he corrected him before.

Memories rose one after another. Whenever Mia’s eyes turned red, Adrian had been bandaging a tiny cut on

Vanessa’s finger. Whenever Mia was hurt, he had been soothing Vanessa through another episode.

Even when Mia cried, he had told her, “Vanessa is unstable right now. Can’t you hold it together for once?”

He had trained himself to treat everything about Mia as unimportant.

Only now did he understand that she had never been unimportant. He simply could not yet name what she

had meant to him.

An hour later, he brought Noah home. The estate felt lifeless. There was no soup simmering in the kitchen.

Shoes lay crooked in the foyer. The television was dark.

Adrian stood by the door with his overcoat extended, waiting for someone to take it.

No one did.

Vanessa tossed her own coat at him instead. “What are we having for dinner? Adrian.”

Noah began to whine. “I want chicken pot pie.”

Irritation surged through Adrian. With Mia there, he had never needed to think about meals, clean clothes, or

keeping the house running. Now they expected him to decide something as trivial as dinner.

He walked upstairs without answering.

The primary bedroom had once belonged to him and Mia. He opened the door and stopped. Bright, clashing colors filled every corner, and stuffed animals were piled across the room.

Only then did he remember that he had forced Mia to hand the primary bedroom over to Vanessa. She had redecorated without asking, stripping away everything familiar until the room no longer felt like his.

Adrian hated clutter, yet he had forced Mia to surrender this room months ago.

He turned away and entered the small guest room where she had been sleeping.

There was almost nothing inside but a bed.

Her expensive dresses still hung in the closet. She had not taken a single one. On the bottom shelf sat an old

cardboard box she had brought from her apartment when they married.

Adrian knew it mattered to her, yet in all their years together, he had never cared what was inside.

Now he lifted the lid.
