Seven Years As His Wife… Until My Own Son Called Me A Homewrecker Chapter 09

The words JUDGMENT OF DIVORCE at the top of the page hit Adrian like a blow.

He went rigid, then snatched the document from his assistant.

Adrian Blackwood. Mia Bennett.

Their names appeared on the first page beneath the case number, followed by the judge’s signature and the

court’s official seal.

Adrian had not even known when the court had finalized their divorce.

“The clerk said Ms. Bennett’s attorney handled the entire filing,” his assistant explained. “The documents you

signed allowed the case to proceed as an uncontested divorce. She only came in after the judge signed the

judgment to collect a certified copy.””

Adrian closed his eyes. “Get me every document her attorney filed.

“I never appeared in court. How could the judge finalize our divorce without me?

“And what about Noah? He means everything to her. She wouldn’t simply walk away from him.”

He clung to the belief that Mia was bluffing.

Now it was simply a matter of who would cave first, and Adrian was certain it wouldn’t be him.

Mia hadn’t held a job since marrying him, and leaving him meant giving up the comfortable life she had known for years. He was sure she wouldn’t last long on her own.

More importantly, Noah had always meant everything to her. There was no way she would walk away

without fighting him for custody.

The divorce had to be a bluff.

Adrian kept telling himself that, but the unease in his chest only grew.

He climbed back into the Maybach in a daze, barely registering Vanessa’s voice until she smacked him on

the arm.

“Adrian! Are you listening? Is the divorce final?”

The demand in her expression irritated him. Frowning, he dropped the decree into her lap.

Her face immediately lit up. “Then when are we getting married?”

Adrian went still.

For the first time, he realized he did not want to marry her.

He had only wanted her to recover. Hadn’t he?

“Nothing is prepared,” he said abruptly. “We’ll discuss it another day.”

Before she could protest, he tapped the driver’s seat. “Take us home.”

Vanessa lowered her eyes, hiding the malice that flashed across them.

At the estate, Adrian noticed the garden. Every flower had withered.

For seven years, this was the first time he had seen the flowers withered.

He loved lavender shortbread. After Mia found out, she planted an entire bed of lavender and learned to bake

it herself, promising that he would always have shortbread made with flowers picked fresh from the garden.

For seven years, she had cared for every plant. Not once had she allowed the garden to die.

Now, in the height of the blooming season, not a single flower remained.

His phone rang as he approached the house.

“Is this Noah Blackwood’s father?” a teacher asked.

“Yes. What happened?”

“I’m glad I finally reached someone. It’s nearly eight. Why hasn’t anyone picked Noah up?”

Adrian stopped walking. “His mother didn’t come?”

Mia had always handled school pickup. He had never once thought about it.

He drove to the school immediately. When Noah saw him, his eyes filled with tears.

“Dad, why didn’t that homewrecker come get me?”

Adrian’s face hardened. “Don’t call her that. She is your mother, and you will respect her.”

“But Mommy Vanessa says she broke up your family. She says Mia is bad.”

Adrian stiffened. Vanessa had been poisoning Noah against Mia all along. She was the one who had taught

him to call his own mother a homewrecker.

He gripped Noah’s hand. “You will never call your mother that again. Do you understand? If you keep treating her this way, she might decide she doesn’t want you anymore.”

Noah scoffed. “She’d never leave me. She said I’m her whole world and that she’d protect me no matter

what!.”

Relief loosened the knot in Adrian’s chest.

Then his phone rang again.

“Mr. Blackwood,” his assistant said, “we obtained the marital settlement agreement filed with the court. It

says…

He hesitated.

“Ms. Bennett agreed that you would have sole legal and physical custody of Noah. She requested no parenting time.”
