Selling Out My Godfather Husband Chapter 06

Selling Out My Godfather Husband Chapter 06

Luca froze in place and nearly dropped his phone.

His lips trembled as he asked, “What did you say?”

“Bella has acute cardiomyopathy? How is that possible?”

A loud ringing filled his ears, and Luca suddenly remembered the desperate, reckless way Isabella had looked the last time he saw her.

By the time he came back to himself, he was already racing to his car.

After running five red lights, Luca stumbled into the hospital.

He took over the computer at the reception desk and typed in Isabella Colombo’s name.

When he saw the dense pages of test results and medical records, Luca could no longer hold himself up.

He collapsed to the floor, hollow-eyed.

“Isabella really had cardiomyopathy?”

He could not bear to imagine that during the entire month he had spent preparing a wedding with Gianna, Isabella had been alone in the hospital, fighting for her life.

In the past, she had been so afraid of pain that even during routine checkups, she would cling to him and beg him to cover her eyes before she could handle a blood draw.

Now, even after being struck by acute cardiomyopathy, she had not said a word.

“Did this patient ever receive surgery afterward?”

His eyes were red as he grabbed the nurse at the front desk.

The nurse was frightened by the look on his face and shook her head in panic.

“If there’s no record, then no.”

The Consigliere arrived soon after.

Luca staggered to his feet and ordered through gritted teeth, “Check the security footage. Check the records of every hospital nearby. Find out where Isabella is now. Hurry!”

Then he pulled out his phone and called Isabella again and again.

Not a single call went through.

Luca felt more helpless than he had ever felt in his life.

In a panic, he opened his messages, only to see that Gianna was pinned at the top.

He scrolled for a long time before he finally found his conversation with Isabella.

The message history was nothing but payment records.

The last one was from a month ago.

He had sent Isabella one hundred thousand dollars to compensate her for her mother’s bracelet.

Isabella had not accepted it, and the money had been returned.

Regret crashed over Luca like a wave.

With trembling hands, he typed a message.

Luca: [Bella, where are you?]

Luca: [Are you okay right now? Did you have the surgery afterward? Is your condition under control?]

After sending several messages in a row, Luca closed his eyes and sent Isabella a voice message.

Luca: [Isabella, I’m sorry. I was wrong that day. I never should have said you were pretending to be sick.]

Luca: [Please tell me where you are, okay? Your health matters more than anything. I’ll find the best doctors for you right now.]

Luca: [When you recover, I’ll make it up to you. I swear.]

While waiting for the Consigliere to report back, Luca went home.

He had not been home in nearly a month. All this time, he had been so busy with the wedding preparations that he had barely known which way was up.

Gianna kept finding reasons to make him stay with her.

Their son had also been pestering him constantly, wanting to spend time with Gianna.

Luca had wanted to use this opportunity to teach Isabella a lesson and break that temper of hers.

He never imagined it would lead to this.

What if Isabella had already finished the surgery and was recovering at home?

Clinging to that last shred of hope, Luca prepared a large bouquet of Isabella’s favorite blush-pink garden roses.

Then he shoved open the front door.

“Isabella!”

But there was no one inside.

Luca strode quickly into the bedroom, trying to find any trace of her.

The primary bedroom was empty too. There were almost no belongings inside that seemed to belong to Isabella.

Panic rose in Luca’s chest. He was about to rush back out and keep looking when he noticed Isabella’s usual suitcase sitting neatly in the corner.

She had not moved out.

Only then did Luca belatedly realize the truth.

Isabella had never owned much to begin with.

He hurriedly yanked open the closet. All the clothes Isabella owned for every season put together took up only one corner.

She had fewer clothes than he had ties.

On the vanity, her makeup and skincare products were barely enough to fill a palm-sized pouch.

How could this be?

For every holiday and special occasion, he had clearly instructed the housekeeper to prepare the newest seasonal releases from popular designer brands as gifts for Isabella.

Whenever he was out and saw clothes or jewelry that suited Isabella, he remembered to buy them for her too.

So where had all those things gone?
