Scammed at My Sister’s Restaurant Chapter 08

Chapter 8 Apology

Things moved smoother than I imagined. There was enough evidence to prove Harold guilty. The restaurant’s surveillance footage, my wound assessment, the transaction records, and his bodyguards’

testimonial. He had no way out, and so he was sentenced to three years in prison.

If the stories were true, he cried and screamed for Selina in court, claiming she would save him.

Selina had more important matters to tend to. Namely, her own survival. She did not have a single cent

after I kicked her out. The people she called friends were nowhere to be found.

Then, she tried to seek out Grandpa, but he never liked her, not when he knew who she really was. And because of the hold I had on the family, he refused to see her.

When she tried to go to the company, the guards stopped her right in the lobby. It was embarrassing.

She finally knew what it felt like to fall from grace. Then, she found Michael’s number and would not stop

calling him. Day to night, that was what she did. She begged Michael to set up a meeting for her.

Michael told me all about it. I told him to tell Selina a message.

“If you want to see me, then stand in front of my father’s grave for seventy-two hours.”

My father developed an illness and left me earlier than I expected. Affairs of the heart, brought by

Selina’s mother.

She owed my father that much. I thought she couldn’t do it. She was, after all, a pampered and selfish

princess.

However, she did it. Michael had his men check on her. She stood before my father’s grave and did not

eat or drink at all.

Then, a downpour happened on the third day. She was drenched and contracted a high fever. Though she was already wobbling, she did not leave.

Michael asked me, “Are you sure you don’t want to see her? She might die.”

I was in my office, warm and soothing. Raindrops pelted against the window. As I looked out into the city, I took a sip of hot coffee. “She’ll live.”

I showed no mercy. This was nothing compared to the pain she inflicted on me. This was only a part of the price she would pay for her evil and stupidity.

Though she lasted three days, she fell unconscious at the cemetery. A patrolling guard saw her and took her to the hospital.

The first thing she did after waking up was call me. I picked it up, eventually.

Her voice was weak and hoarse. There was a glimmer of hope inside. “I did it, Zacharias. Can you…

forgive me?”

“Forgive you?” I chuckled. “You got it all wrong, Selina. I asked you to stand not because I would forgive you. I wanted you to know your place and understand the real reason why you had a life of opulence. Now, do you have your answer?”

A long silence followed. I could imagine the despair on her face.

“I never would’ve killed you,” I said calmly. “I had my assistant rent you an apartment in the suburbs, and

I wired you 30 grand. That should last you for a bit. And now, what happens to you is none of my

business. Nor is it my family’s. You go your way, I go mine. Don’t come to me ever again.”

I hung up before she could say anything, and then I blocked her number.

Finally, peace and quiet for me.
