Scammed at My Sister’s Restaurant Chapter 09

Chapter 9 Smooth Sailing

I pulled out the money I invested in that restaurant. The VP and core team resigned just to join me as we set up a new place.

In less than six months, my restaurant found a foothold in the industry thanks to better service and quality of food. We became the bar everyone strove to reach.

Without the funds and core team, Selina’s restaurant took a huge hit. Harold’s case ruined their reputation, and it went out of business due to mismanagement soon enough.

I heard rumors that she tried to start a business with the money I gave her, but she lost all of it.

She was used to a life where money was no problem. Budgeting was not something she knew at all.

Eventually, she ran out of money and could not even make rent.

Michael was the one who came back with further news. I was told that Selina was working at a fast-food place to keep the lights on. She had to work with greasy uniforms every single day and serve the people she used to think were beneath her.

One of her erstwhile friends noticed her during a visit, and they humiliated her in public.

“Do you ever regret going that far?” Michael asked me.

I shook my head. “No. I should’ve seen through her sooner.”

I spent more than ten years trying to teach a monster gratitude. Alas, a leopard would never change its spots.

Now, I had a successful business with a good friend by my side.

I did not have to live for anyone else. No longer did I have to shoulder any responsibility that was not my

own.

I could finally live my own life.

Then, one beautiful afternoon, Michael and I were having lunch in an al fresco garden. It was a new restaurant’s spot.

A delivery girl parked her bike in front of the restaurant’s entrance. She took her helmet off, revealing a worn-out and tired face.

Selina.

She saw me too. In her eyes were shame, hatred, and mostly numbness. She’d accepted her fate. Instead of coming closer, she glanced at me from afar and darted into the building next door with her delivery.

Sunlight rained down on me. It was warm. “Nice weather, huh, Mike?”

Michael smiled. “Never better.”

It was then, we knew, that the dark clouds that had loomed over my head for more than ten years were

gone now.

What awaited us was smooth sailing from now on.
